Ford Ranger 2019: Variants explained
Pickup trucks are really cool. They are designed to take a lot of beating on a daily basis and still offer you a good and comfortable driving experience. Some of today’s pickup trucks can also handle a lot of off-road exercises that you wouldn’t even dare to imagine to do in a sedan or hatchback for that matter. Ford is into making pickup trucks for decades now and the latest Ford Ranger 2019 is one of the best that you can buy in the Philippines. There are a number of variants of the Ranger available which gives us, the consumer, to pick the one that suits our needs. In this article, we’re going to explain all the Ford Ranger 2019 variants.
Ford Philippines has classified the Ranger variants into three categories- Wildtrak, XLT, and XLS. Each of these categories come with subdivisions which are basically the different models of the vehicle. We’re going to break it down category-wise.
Ford Ranger 2019 Wildtrak
There are three variants in this category- 2.0L Bi-Turbo 4x4 AT, 2.0L 4x2 AT, and 2.0L 4x2 MT. As you might figure out by the names, the first one here comes with a 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine which produces 213 PS at 3750 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1750 to 2000 rpm. The gearbox in question is a 10-speed automatic unit. This is the most powerful engine in the entire 'normal' Ranger series.
On the other hand, the remaining two variants are powered by the same 2.0-litre engine but only with a single turbocharger. Of course, it means a difference in the power and torque figures. This engine produces 180 PS at 3500 rpm and 420Nm at 1750 at 2500 rpm. The transmission could be either a 10-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. Another major difference between is the availability of 4x4 and 4x2 drive, which is understood by the names.
Some of the other aspects of this category include 18-inch alloy wheels, electrical power-assisted steering, HID headlamps with DRLs, LED fog lamps, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather seats, 8-inch TFT touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC 3 and navigation, and ambient lighting.
In terms of safety features, this category gets electronic stability program with traction control, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, side and, curtain airbags, etc. The Bi-Turbo variant gets additional features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keeping aid, forward collision warning, active park assist, etc.
Ford Ranger 2019 XLT
This category has two variants- 2.2L 4x2 AT and 2.2L 4x2 MT. The engine option in these variants is a 2.2-litre TDCi unit which churns out 160 PS at 3200 rpm and 385 Nm at 1600 to 2500 rpm. The automatic variant here comes with a 6-speed transmission rather than the 10-speed one that is incorporated in the Wildtrak models. As far as the manual variant is concerned, it is a 6-speed manual unit. The XLT models sit a bit lower than the Wildtrak models. Hence, they lack a few features. Both the XLT variants come with 17-inch wheels, projector headlamps, conventional front fog lamps, chrome front grille, side steps, leather-wrapped steering wheel, etc.
Other features of these models include fabric seats, single-zone manual AC, 4.2-inch TFT display, Ford’s SYNC 1.1 without navigation, etc. Talking about the safety features, there’s only dual front airbags, cruise control, and ABS with EBD. You won’t find any active safety features here.
Ford Ranger 2019 XLS
This is the most affordable range of the Ranger. It has three variants- 2.2L 4x4 MT, 2.2L 4x2 AT, and 2.2L 4x2 MT. The engine used in these models is the same one that we’ve addressed in the XLT variants. However, the XLS is the only range which provides a manual transmission along with a 4x4 drive system. So, enthusiasts out there, you’d like this combination. Even though the powertrain of the XLS range is the same as that of the XLT range, Ford has done some changes to keep the price of these variants in check.
To begin with, these models come with 16-inch wheels, reflector headlamps, polyurethane steering wheel, dual front airbags, cruise control, ABS with EBD, and that’s about it. These were some of the main highlights of the XLS models. To summarize, you miss out on some comfort, luxury, and safety features but do get the same performance as the XLT models.
So, these were the Ford Ranger 2019 variants; 8 in total. There’s one more variant which sits above all of the aforementioned models. However, you’d need to shell out a bit more cash for it. It’s the newly launched Ford Ranger Raptor 2019. This thing is a beast, a super pickup truck. If you’re interested in making yourself acquainted with that, you should read our ‘Ranger Raptor’s hits and misses’ story. As far as the Ford Ranger 2019 price is concerned, it starts at Php 1.03 million and goes up to Php 1.7 million. The number of available colors is 6- Ingot Silver, Magnetic, Lighting Blue, Absolute Black, Hot Pepper Red, and Saber.
