“The Ranger Plug-in Hybrid will help customers step forward into an electrified future, with more confidence and capability than ever before, while keeping Ranger at the forefront of innovation and leadership in the mid-size pickup truck segment,” commented Ford Pro Europe General Manager Hans Schep.
Power, for the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid, will come from the 2.3-liter Ford Ecoboost gasoline powerplant combined with an electric motor and rechargeable battery system. Per the Blue Oval brand’s Europen arm, it will offer an estimated all-electric range of approximately 45 kilometers.
Further, Ford hinted that part of its target market are car buyers who live in Europe’s towns and cities that have certain “low emissions zones.”
“Pure electric drive capability opens new possibilities for business owners in growing numbers of towns and cities with low emissions zones,” Ford wrote in a press statement.
The Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid will also sport electric vehicle (EV)--specific drive modes, which will allow owners more flexibility in deciding how and when to use the EV battery power.
Taking full advantage of its electrified powertrain, the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid is expected to offer Pro Power Onboard. The said feature will enable customers to power their high-draw power tools and appliances on a worksite or remote campsite by plugging them into power outlets embedded in both the cargo bed as well as the cabin.
And for those looking to use the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid as a workhorse, the carmaker revealed that like every Ranger in the family, the electrified truck boasts a 3,500-kilogram braked towing capacity.
“Our customers want electrified vehicles that deliver strong performance and affordable cost of ownership without compromising what they love about their truck. The Ranger Plug-in Hybrid is a best-of-both-worlds solution for work, play, and family — offering customers zero-tailpipe emission EV driving for short trips, or hybrid performance that delivers incredible off-road, payload, and towing capabilities. And, with Pro Power Onboard for the first time, Ranger owners can power their work sites and campsites easily,” Schep stated.
