GAC GS5 and GM6 will soon be arriving in PH

MANILA: Chinese automakers are not backing down from established automobile manufacturers, making their presence felt in the Philippines.

One of these Chinese auto brands is GAC. GAC Motor Philippines has just announced that it will officially offer the GS5 and GM6 sometime next year.

2020 GAC GS5

The second-generation GS5 is a 5-seater compact crossover that made its debut during the 2018 Paris Auto Show. The vehicle is 4,695 mm long, 1,885 mm wide, 1,700 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,710mm. The GAC GS5 design is inspired by “light and shadow.” It features a robust front grille flanked with full LED headlights with daytime running lights.

At the rear is a narrow strip of light that runs across the hatch and connects the taillights. Inside are two-toned leather seats.

The cockpit is of minimalist design with a digital instrument cluster and a 3-spoke steering wheel. At the center of the dashboard just below the A/C vents in the infotainment display monitor.

GS5 is powered by two kinds of engine: a 1.5- Liter four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged version. The base engine can deliver 152 Hp of power and 235 Nm of torque while the turbocharged can churn out 169 Hp of power and 265 Nm of peak torque and can go for a respectable 14km per liter. The base engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, while the turbocharged comes solely in automatic transmission.

2020 GAC GM6

The GM6, on the other hand, is a 7-seater minivan launched at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. It measures 4,780 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,765 mm high (including the shark fin antenna), and has a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. The GM6 is powered by a 1.5- liter turbo inline-four engine capable of delivering 166 Hp of power and 265 Nm of peak torque partnered to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

And just like the Toyota Alphard, which is a direct competitor of this GAC vehicle in the minivan segment, the GAC GM6 also features a dominant grille and compact hood. Albeit no sliding door, which will also clearly distinguish this model from the larger GM8 variant. The rear design is similar to that of the GS5 with a narrow strip of light that connects the two taillights.

Inside the cabin are three rows of seating. The first two rows feature captain chairs complete with armrest and headrest, while the third row is a bench-style seating that could fit 3 passengers comfortably. The top-of-the-line variant comes in leather seats, minimalist dashboard with a fully digital instrument cluster, and an infotainment display. The GM6 also comes with an ion air-purifier to help you breathe easy despite getting stuck in traffic.

No official word yet as to when GAC Motors Philippines will release the GM6 and GS5, but you can rest assured that we will keep you posted when they do.
