Geely Coolray paces subcompact crossover sales in July

MANILA: Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the global automotive industry, Geely Philippines once again posted strong sales last July.

According to consolidated July sales data from the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) and the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), the Geely Coolray emerged as the top-seller among similar five-seater subcompact crossovers. Its total of 263 units sold in July beat its previous highest sales in June, when it sold 154 units.

Moreover, nearly a year after the arrival of the brand in the Philippine automotive market, Geely Philippines has already reached 1,000 Coolray units in sales as of last month.

During the previous month, Geely also made it to the Top 9 ranking in terms of passenger vehicle sales with a total sale of 292 units (taking into account sales of the Geely Azkarra as well), for a market share of 1.3%.

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama said, “This shows that more Filipinos are beginning to trust the Geely brand and what it could offer. The numbers speak for themselves. As the Coolray sets good vehicle quality and standards, we are confident that the good market reception that we’re getting for Coolray will also transcend to the other models like the Azkarra and the others that will be introduced after it. Dominating the subcompact SUV crossover market with a good number of sales amid the crisis is a significant step in gaining more people’s trust in the Geely brand.”

On a global scale, Zheijiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) has been gaining significant attention after being included again in the Fortune Global 500 for the ninth consecutive year this 2020.

Geely Holding was ranked 243rd out of the top 500 global companies in terms of sales, as it hit a cumulative revenue of US$47.886 billion last year.
