Geely Coolray - Top features we love
Adding a new and worth-considering option in the B-segment crossover segment, Geely launched its latest Coolray in the Philippines earlier this month. It’s a global product and has been doing pretty well in various other markets. Geely hopes the same fate for the Coolray in our country as well. Indeed, it’s a great car and has features that make it even greater. Following are the top features that we love.
Cosmos front grille
To make sure the Coolray completely stands out of the crowd, Geely came up with a new and attractive design for the front grille. It’s called Cosmos Front Grille and it does make a difference. It also houses the brand’s logo in the middle and Geely has cleverly matched the shape of the front grille with that of its logo. We also like the red highlight, it adds a sporty touch. And of course, there’s a subtle chrome embellishment that bridges the gap between the two very striking headlamps.
Turbine-inspired sports rims
One of the main attractive features of the Geely Coolray that you would spot from the side is its turbine-inspired sports rims. They have a very unique design and, as the name suggests, are quite sporty to look at. They enhance the car’s overall look. And the visible red brake calliper just makes things that much more interesting.
7-inch LCD instrument panel
The interior of the Coolray is definitely very captivating thanks to its superb design and colour combination. However, there are other specific features that just enhance the overall user/driving experience.
The 7-inch LCD instrument panel is one such feature. Sitting behind the flat-bottom steering wheel, this fully-digital panel is a house of a plethora of information. Small things like the shape of the panel’s housing match the orientation of some of the information displayed, like the fuel gauge and engine temperature, is brilliant.
Large floating-type infotainment screen
Having a large touch screen infotainment is pretty common these days, however, what you would find in the Geely Coolray specs sheet is a bit different. Yes, it is large - 10.25-in to be precise - but it is wider than usual. It covers up a good amount of space on the centre dashboard and does not look out of place or proportion.
Also, its floating-type design is a great aesthetic feature. The infotainment system comes preloaded with Geely’s GKUI smart ecosystem which is built to make your life easier. It supports functions like calling, voice commands, music, navigation, etc.
360-degree panoramic video
To fully utilise the 10.25-in screen, Geely also provided a 360-degree panoramic video option. This falls under the safety features as it allows you to have a complete view around the vehicle making it easier to park in tight spaces. And having it all displayed on the large screen is really great.
What other safety features does it have, you ask? Here are some of the other interesting and advanced safety features of the Geely Coolray-
- Blindspot detection function
- Lane keep assist
- Lane departure warning
- Automatic emergency brake with pedestrian recognition
- Intelligent high beam control
- Intelligent cruise control
- Automatic parking assistant
Engine and transmission
Engine | 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged |
Power | 177 PS at 5500 rpm |
Torque | 255 Nm at 1500-4000 rpm |
Max speed | 195 kmph |
Drive mode | Front-wheel drive |
Fuel economy | 16.39 kmpl |
Transmission | 7-speed dual-clutch transmission |
This is the only engine option available in the Coolray in the Philippines. Its global variant has a less powerful 1.0-litre engine coupled to a 6-speed MT. Since we have only a single variant of the Coolray in our country, it makes sense to have only one engine option. The 1.5-litre power mill is pretty great. Geely says it can pull the Coolray from a standstill to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and the 7-speed DCT works brilliantly in dynamic driving situations.
So, these were the top features of the Coolray that we love. Of course, these are not all of them. Do let us know in the comments which one is your favourite feature. And if you are wondering about the cost, the Geely Coolray price is Php 1.2 million and it’s available in two colour options - red and white.
