Google HD maps to be featured in 2024 Volvo EX90

MANILA: Lidar, cameras, and radars work together in the 2024 Volvo EX90 to comprehend its surroundings and support occupant safety. Volvo discovers a technique to perceive the environment of the car in detail, both immediately in front of it and at longer distances beyond the twists and bends ahead. Here comes Google's HD map, a thorough map created especially for automakers that offers extremely detailed and current road information.

Volvo Cars and its strategic subsidiary Polestar will be the first automakers to incorporate Google's HD map technology into their vehicles, beginning with the recently announced Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3. This collaboration between the automaker and search giant dates back many years.

Volvo will be able to facilitate assisted-driving features like lane change assistance and Volvo Cars' Pilot Assist technology, as well as future autonomous driving functionality, by integrating Google's HD map. This will allow Volvo to combine data from its industry-leading sensor set in the 2024 Volvo EX90 with Google's precise lane-level and localization data.

The Volvo EX90's core computer system, which is powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AI Platforms Xavier and Orin, will process this road information along with data from the lidar and other sensors. Volvo intends to produce a more predictable, secure, and comfortable driving by merging data from Google's HD map with information obtained from Volvo's external sensors, including a lidar and software built by safety software company Zenseact.

Future versions of Volvo’s autonomous driving technology will work in conjunction with Google's HD map and our sensor array, which includes radars, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and a lidar incorporated into the roof. This will help the car understand its surroundings even better.

Volvo claims that the driving mode of the 2024 Volvo EX90 will always be prominently visible and recognized within the car, whether it is in manual, assisted, or - in the future - autonomous driving mode. Users can prevent so-called mode confusion in this way, which will help to promote focused, safe, and enjoyable driving.
