Hatchback-only, RS-model of 2024 Subaru Impreza breaks cover

MANILA: At the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru of America, Inc. unveiled the 2024 Subaru Impreza to the world. The sixth-generation Impreza has a completely new look, better performance, greater safety features, and modernized multimedia technologies. The 2024 Subaru Impreza RS model is also brand-new and comes with a 2.5-liter Boxer engine, exceptional 18-inch wheels, and distinctive aesthetic and interior features.

The 1992 Los Angeles Auto Show is also where the 1992 Subaru Impreza made its premiere, providing buyers with a tiny car that was affordable and offered Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as an option. Impreza was a pioneer in the compact car market and at the time, the only car with all-wheel drive. The Impreza served as a precursor to the famed Subaru WRX, a performance vehicle that has won rally championships for four decades.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza series gets a stylish makeover and includes the most recent version of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard equipment. For the first time, the Impreza is fitted with the Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The system also provides on-screen controls for the vehicle's features, audio, and climate.

For 2024, Subaru has streamlined the Impreza model line to further emphasize the vehicle’s sportiness, versatility and capability. The Impreza is now available in Base, Sport and new RS trim levels. The compact car comes exclusively as a five-door hatchback when it arrives in Subaru retailers this spring.

In terms of power, the 2024 Subaru Impreza Base and Sport trims are equipped with a two-liter four-cylinder direct-injection Boxer engine producing 152hp and 145 lb.-ft. of torque. The new RS upgrades to a 2.5-liter Boxer engine delivering an impressive 182 hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. Standard on all trim levels is a Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission. The Sport and RS trims feature an eight-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters that allow the driver to control the transmission via eight pre-set ratios.

Matched to the enhanced engine is better handling. The 2024 Impreza also receives a version of the WRX sports car’s dual-pinion electronic power steering rack, offering more direct and natural steering feel and greater responsiveness. The 2024 Subaru Impreza Sport and RS trim levels are equipped with the SI-Drive performance management system, 18-inch alloy wheels and a sport-tuned suspension to maximize performance and handling.

To improve body rigidity and lightness, a full inner frame construction and additional structural adhesive are used. These improvements result in a smoother ride, enhanced dynamic performance, and a quieter cabin. These are all results of the torsional rigidity of the Subaru Global Platform for the 2024 Subaru Impreza that has been increased by 10%.

An increased concentration on the passengers and their interactions with the vehicle is advantageous for the cabin. The overall level of comfort is raised and tiredness is reduced through a more supportive front seat design. A cabin is quieter and more comfortable as a consequence of concentrated efforts to reduce noise in specific frequency ranges. There is plenty of head and leg room, storage space, and a central information display with highly visible controls in the contemporary, tidy interior design.

Standard on all 2024 Subaru Impreza models is the latest version of the award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The enhanced system operates smoother, faster, and under a greater range of conditions. These improvements are thanks to a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster. EyeSight can now identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections sooner and, when necessary, alerts the driver and applies brakes to avoid collisions.

Throughout its 30-year history, the Subaru Impreza has received safety awards from trusted organizations including the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The outgoing five-door Subaru Impreza was named a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick, marking the 15th consecutive year the compact car has earned this award since 2007, and includes the highest possible rating of “Superior” for frontal crash prevention from IIHS. Subaru anticipates the all-new 2024 Impreza will continue to deliver exemplary safety performance.

For the first time, the Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is available for Impreza. The 11.6-inch high-resolution touchscreen has wireless full-screen Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities. With on-screen controls for radio, climate, and vehicle functions, the multimedia system also serves as a central information display.

The flagship enthusiast-focused trim level of the car makes a comeback with the 2024 Subaru Impreza RS. The 2.5 RS made its debut in 1998 and served as the WRX's predecessor in the US market. The new RS trim level comes standard with a potent 2.5-liter Boxer engine mated to an eight-speed manual Lineartronic CVT with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza RS specification comes with special exterior trim features such RS badging on the front doors and rear hatch, 18-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray finish, a black finish on the front grille, side spoilers, side mirrors, enhanced LED headlights, and LED fog lights.

Sport front seats in black fabric with red cloth bolsters and carpeted floormats with the RS emblem are just a few of the interior trim features that set the RS's cabin apart from other vehicles. The RS also has improved aluminum alloy pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, heated front seats, and rear USB charging points.

The top-tier model improves on the Sport by adding standard features including Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist. A 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a power moonroof, and a 10-way power front driver seat with lumbar support are only available on the RS.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza hatchback is related to the all-new Subaru Crosstrek crossover that was recently launched in the Japanese market.

Thanks to the brand's distinctive symmetrical AWD and its small body with a tough and athletic style, the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek offers full-fledged SUV performance, making it a flexible crossover SUV perfect for any driving situation, whether in the city or for outdoor excursions.
