Hyundai Motor Group's Universal Mobility Project aims to help persons with disabilities through its smart mobility solutions. The Korean carmaker partnered with SG Enable, the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, and the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) for this program.
The initiative is part of Hyundai Motor Group's Universal Mobility Project that aims to help persons with disabilities through its smart mobility solutions.
In 2021, Hyundai Motor Group completed the first phase of the project with the launch of EnableLA in California, USA. EnableLA helps improve transportation of people with mobility barriers through wheelchair-accessible Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride.
The launch of the assistive mobility solution is in line with Hyundai Motor Group's Smart City vision, which was introduced at the 2022 World Cities Summit held in Singapore. The vision tackles the integration of mobility solutions to address challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
"In order to realize a smart city where every citizen can enjoy the freedom of mobility, it is necessary to develop an end-to-end mobility solution that supports the entire movement process, from pre-boarding to post-boarding of a vehicle. To make fundamental changes that achieve our goal, it will take collaborative efforts across the entire ecosystem, including the public and private sectors, not just by a single company," Hyundai Motor Group Smart City Innovation Group Head Hyeyoung Kim stated.
Hyundai Motor Group is also working with tech startups to develop an integrated navigation guide with hardware-free positioning and obstacle monitoring with computer vision. Mapxus will create an indoor navigation solution using Wi-Fi-fingerprinting technology, while Ailytics will develop a CCTV video analysis solution using computer vision technology.
The pilot program will be implemented at SG Enable's Enabling Village, the first inclusive community space in Singapore for integrating persons with disabilities. Participants will give their feedback after 10 weeks of testing period and this data will be used for the future versions of the mobility solution.
The general version of the mobility solution will be available to all persons with disabilities and their caregivers who visit Enabling Village. They will be able to download the app through a QR code that will be provided by Enabling Village’s Information and Career Center.
