KEY TAKEAWAYS
What engine is used for the Isuzu D-Max and mu-X in Thailand?
The Thai-spec models use an upgraded RZ4F 2.2-liter diesel engine paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. How much power does the said engine make?
Per Isuzu, it makes some 121 hp with 400 Nm.The Japanese carmaker’s iconic pickup truck and sport utility vehicle have been fitted with a newly-developed RZ4F 2.2-liter diesel engine paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
Per Isuzu, the upgraded powertrain allows the said models to deliver enhanced performance and fuel efficiency.
“D-Max and mu-X have been highly acclaimed around the world for their robust design, off-road performance, and diesel engines that provide excellent fuel economy. In response to market demand, the new powerful RZ4F engine combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission brings significant improvements to start-up capability, acceleration, and fuel efficiency compared to existing models,” the company wrote in a press release.
According to Isuzu, the updated diesel mill can generate up to approximately 121 horsepower (hp) with 400 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. In addition, the said engine is able to maintain excellent durability and minimize noise levels.
Further, the eight-speed automatic slushbox now has a wider gear range, optimized torque, high-performance lockup dampers, and gear shift map settings tailored to the RZ4F engine. As a result, it allows improved start-up capability, acceleration, fuel economy, and overall performance.
The models will go on sale in Thailand on November 28.
“Isuzu has attained high market share in Thailand over the years with the support of many loyal customers. The new D-Max and mu-X, with a new engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, will bring significant improvements in driving performance and fuel economy,” Isuzu President and Chief Operating Officer Shinsuke Minami said.
“Isuzu continues to develop a wide range of products with a multi-pathway approach as we strive to realize a carbon-neutral society, not only in the area of internal combustion engines but for battery EVs (electric vehicles) and fuel cell vehicles as well. We greatly value the voice of our customers and are committed to delivering the best products for a wide range of applications in Thailand,” he added.
Isuzu D-Max, mu-X in PH
Zigwheels Philippines is yet to hear from Isuzu’s local subsidiary if the marque will bring in the updated D-Max and mu-X. However, the currently available models in the country are equipped with the 1.9-liter RZ4E engine instead of the aforementioned 2.0-liter RZ4F.
The RZ4E engine makes only around 148 hp with 350 Nm of pulling power.
Should Isuzu Philippines Corporation decide to introduce these updated models into the local market, Filipino car buyers can enjoy a more powerful vehicle that also helps them make their journeys more sustainable.
