Isuzu updates mu-X

MANILA: Isuzu Motors Limited gave the mu-X some significant updates. 

For its major product upgrade since a full model change in 2020, the new Isuzu mu-X will have a “Bold and Dynamic” exterior coupled with a redesigned interior as well as a bolstered list of safety features. 

“The current mu-X, which underwent a full model change in 2020, has been well received in more than 60 countries and regions around the world, including here in Thailand, where it achieved a record market share of 34.6 percent last year. We are confident that the mu-X, which has undergone a further evolution with a redesigned exterior and interior, will continue to be one of the key products that drive the Isuzu brand to new heights on a global scale,” Isuzu President Shinsuke Minami said. 

Isuzu mu-X new features

Outside, the new Isuzu mu-X now dons a more aggressive-looking fascia with a relatively modern grille. A new air curtain has been incorporated into the bumper and the redesigned lamps are also noticeable. 

The Japanese carmaker also slapped the sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a set of new aluminum wheels. 

Overall, the exterior update — Isuzu pointed out — “not only exudes elegance and agility, but also achieves a high level of aerodynamic performance.”

The cabin of the updated Isuzu mu-X receives a redesigned instrument panel, seats, and door trims. These changes — the Yokohama-headquartered firm noted — keeps with the SUV’s “Bold and Dynamic” design language. 

Isuzu also improved the safety features of the mu-X with technologies that make use of a next-generation stereo camera. 

Example, the Isuzu mu-X can now detect pedestrians when entering an intersection. The said feature automatically activates the brakes should a risk of collision is detected. 

Also, the SUV can now detect vehicles approaching from the rear and automatically apply braking (when reversing) should it anticipate a risk of collision. 

Finally, the new Isuzu mu-X can automatically warm the windshield around the camera to prevent fogging, thereby avoiding the risk of safety features malfunctioning. 

Other notable features include a new surround view monitor system and an updated seven-inch instrument cluster. 

Isuzu mu-X RS

Isuzu is also introducing an RS-badged mu-X, which offers additional features from the standard models. 

The Isuzu mu-X RS gets black elements across its exterior design and an exclusive emblem on the front grille. 

Inside, it gets ambient lighting and foot lamps. 

Updated Isuzu mu-X launch 

The updated Isuzu mu-X has been launched in Thailand in June 12. Subsequent launches are planned for other markets in due time. 

As to when it will reach the country,  Isuzu Philippines Incorporated Assistant Division Head for Sales Robert Carlos told Zigwheels Philippines that the company is currently conducting a feasibility study to find out if the new mu-X is fit for the Philippine market.
