Meet the now Aggressive & Safer 2016 Toyota Previa

MANILA: Toyota Previa has been running down the Philippines road for quite some time now, and just for your update, the car that we see currently in the market is the 3rd generation model of Previa. This particular model was introduced by the brand at the global platform in the year 2006 and thus, it rightly calls for an immediate update. It was not long back when a Chinese website released leaked images of 4th generation Toyota Previa, confirming that the Philippines highest auto sales grosser is not taking things for granted and is working constantly to maintain its No.1 position.

A close inspection of 2016 Previa revealed that the car is way better than its previous form when it comes to exterior design philosophy, cabin comfort & convenience, and passenger safety. So, if one is planning to buy a new minivan in the near future this one will be an alternate over the car like Nissan Grand Livina. But for that, you have to put your plans on hold, as Toyota Philippines has not made any announcement on the launch of the same.

In the following article, you'll see how the new Previa is better over its previous generation and what all useful traits it carries forward.

Exterior Previa

Design Language

Starting with its revised design language, Toyota Motor Corporation has employed its new 'Keen Look' philosophy on Previa, the same designing language that was also seen applied on New York debut all-new Prius Prime . Owing to which it gets sharper and aggressive traits like sleek LED headlights, single-line chrome plated grille, black trapezoidal air dam and vertical fog lamps. On to the side are present black ORVM with turn indicators, contour lines running through its entire length, additional chrome strip on the doors and restyled multi-spoke alloy wheels. Finally moving to the rear portion, new Previa now gets rear windshield lined tail lights, rear spoiler and slight chrome work on the tailgate. All these features gives Previa’s rather conventional design language a fresh transformation.

Interior

Cabin area at first glance may look very similar to the 3rd generation Previa as it carries the same dashboard implanted instrument binnacle and gearbox housing on the centre console. But apart from this, other features are new and revised like its new 3-spoke steering wheel (over the previous 4-spoke version), attractive chrome and shiny black inserts (over the rather boring beige and grey combination), and soft touch controls (replacing the conventional buttons). Taking care of your comfort and entertainment, there is a touch screen display that we think will take care of your audio and navigation needs (replacing the old 2-DIN audio system), and a better and improved climate control system. Hence, making its interior more inviting and alluring.

Safety

Another major improvement is seen over the safety front that now gets powered by Toyota Safety Sense C package and what's even better is its standard application over its Previa entire trim lineup. In addition to previously available attributes like ABS, EBD, dual Airbags, Seatbelt pretensioner, engine immobiliser, etc, this package includes automatic high beam, pre-collision safety and lane departure alert. The added package enhances its safety by manifold, insuring occupants all round protection.

New Variant & Transmission

One major up-gradation that comes along with the new Toyota Previa is a new variant that makes it apt for disabled passengers, enabling it with easy in-out facility. Another noticeable change is seen over the transmission area that now features a new Super CVT-i system over the previous 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Now, coming to the part where we’ll see the features that Previa 2016 tallies from its previous generation, it includes -

  • Same 7 and 8 seating configuration available with different variants
  • 2016 Previa houses the same 170 PS generating 2.4L AZ-FE mill.

That's all for now on Toyota new minivan, we hope it lands soon on the Philippines ground along with the Asian market dedicated all-new Toyota Passo that made its global debut this April.
