MG Motor PH eyes to double 2024 sales output this year

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines is eyeing to almost double its 2024 sales performance this year.

MG Motor Philippines Vice President for Operations Karl Magsuci shared the company’s goal after the firm reached its best retail performance yet when it sold 9,016 units last year.

In pursuit of achieving the targeted numbers, he said that the  SAIC Motor Philippines-led automotive distributor will be relying on its new and upcoming local offerings as well as on the strength of its existing dealerships.

Meanwhile, SAIC Motor Philippines President Felix Jiang shared that the company would expand its lineup soon to allow them to compete in the following categories:

• Midsize sport utility vehicle
• Pick-up truck

Following this statement from the company president, this could mean that MG Motor Philippines will bring back the HS nameplate (which was in the country as of 2022 but was discontinued shortly after) or the D90 (which is under SAIC Motor’s Maxus sub-brand).

For the possible pick-up contender, the company might introduce the T70, T90 or T60 (which are also Maxus nameplates).

Earlier, the company said that the sales volume achieved the previous year was driven by the following models:

• MG ZS
• MG G50 Plus
• MG 5

Of the three, the brand’s subcompact sedan offering got the biggest share with 3,415 units sold in 2024. 

On the other hand, MG Motor Philippines shall also bolster its dealer-network's aftersales support to ensure quality customer experience.

Right now, the firm has more than 40 dealerships situated in key locations nationwide.

"We welcome those who would like to partner with us, but at the same time, we will make that customers will get to have experience quality service inside our current dealer network," Magsuci said.

Additionally, he also bared that the company plans to move up in the local sales rankings and be the fifth best-selling automotive brand after three years, and hit third in a decade’s time.
