MG PH unveils pure EV models with less than P3-M price tag
MANILA: SAIC Motor Philippines, the official distributor of MG vehicles in the country, has brought in the all-electric MG 4 hatchback and Marvel R sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Meanwhile, the MG Marvel R was recognized by La Tercera as the Best Large SUV for 2023.
"With the launch of the Marvel R and MG 4 , our goal is for MG Philippines to truly kick-start the everyday electric revolution for Filipino motorists by providing safe, modern, and truly attainable EVs that can be owned and maintained with ease," SAIC Motor Philippines President Felix Jiang stated.
Here are the features of MG's contenders in the local EV market.
Variants and pricing
The MG 4 is available in two variants: the Standard which is priced at P1,468,888 and the Lux which retails for P1,738,888.
On the other hand, the MG Marvel R comes in a single trim (dubbed the Alpha), which is priced at P2,588,888.
Every purchase comes with an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer (km) EV battery warranty and a five-year or 100,000-km vehicle warranty.
Powertrain
Under the hood of the MG 4 Standard is a 125-kilowatt (kW) electric motor paired to a 51-kilowatt-per-hour (kWh) battery pack. This combination produces 170 horsepower (hp) and 250 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The entry-level trim of the MG 4 has a range of 350 km.
Meanwhile, the MG 4 Lux is powered by a 150-kW electric motor and a 64-kWh battery pack. This powertrain delivers 200 hp and 250 Nm of pulling power and has a range of 435 km.
For the MG Marvel R, power comes from a 137-kW electric motor and a 70-kWh battery pack that churn out 184 hp and 255 Nm of torque. This pure electric SUV has a range of 402 km.
The MG 4 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 26 minutes using a Type 2 direct current charger, while the Marvel R can be topped up from 5 to 80 percent in 43 minutes.
Exterior
The MG 4 features a sporty vibe that appeals to the younger market. It is designed with a striking front fascia, a sloping, aerodynamic roofline, and upgraded rear end with a dual-wing spoiler and a full LED tail light cluster. The Standard trim is fitted with 17-inch steel wheels, while the Lux variant comes with 18-inch steel wheels.
On the other hand, the MG Marvel 4 features a more minimalist styling with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and tail lights; flowing body lines; and 19-inch wheels.
Interior
On the inside, the MG 4 comes with a seven-inch instrument panel, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen display with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, six-speaker audio system, wireless charging pad, and polyurethane seats.
The MG Marvel 4, on the other hand, is designed with a luxurious cabin that comes with Nappa leather seats with heating and ventilating functions, a 19.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display encased by a Corning Gorilla Glass surface plate, leather seats, and an eight-speaker Bose premium audio system. Over 95 percent of the interior is covered by noise-, vibration-, and harshness-proof materials.
Safety
Advanced driver assistance systems are standard on both the MG 4 and Marvel R. These include blind spot detection, lane keeping assist, intelligent speed alert, pedestrian warning system, autonomous emergency braking, and cornering brake control.
The MG 4 and Marvel R are available for test drive at the “EVeryday Extraordinary” event from today until Sunday at the Bonifacio High Street Activity Center in Taguig City.
