MIAS 2024: Hyundai Motor PH grabs attention with N-sub brand introduction

MANILAHyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) drew the crowd to its booth in the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2024 after bringing out the N marque.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the N?

N is Hyundai's high performance sub-brand. It is coined from Hyundai Motor’s research and development center in Namyang, Korea and technical center in Nürburgring, Germany.
  • What are the N models that form part of Hyundai's local lineup?

The N models that joined the local Hyundai lineup are the Elantra N and Ioniq 5 N.
  • N is the Korean automaker’s high-performance sub-brand that involves cars, technologies, and motorsports activities. Its name came from Hyundai Motor’s research and development center in Namyang, Korea and technical center in Nürburgring, Germany.

Product of the “rolling lab” under Hyundai’s Racing Midship project, the N is founded upon three pillars namely Corner Rascal, Everyday Sports Car, and Racetrack Capability.

Per HMPH, the brainstorming and testing grounds then act as the bridge from tracks to roads, from race cars to production models. The company also shared that the creation of N is to harness Hyundai’s heritage and experience in racing and rallying into road-going cars to bring back the thrill of driving.

The presence of the N also marked the debut of the Elantra N and the Ioniq 5 N. The two shared the booth’s spotlight alongside the Elantra N TCR, which is the 2023 winner of the TCR World Tour Drivers’ Championship.

To recall, the Elantra was once made available to the local market under the previous distributor Hyundai Asia Resources Incorporated (HARI) while the Ioniq 5 is under the current offerings of the new local arm.

    Elantra N specifications

The Hyundai Elantra N boasts an aggressive look as expressed in the lower and wider stance and a bolder front bumper design. Adding to the sporty design are the black anodized emblem and N-specific red accents at the front and rear bumpers as well as the side sill moldings.

Ready to roll on the normal roads as well as on the tracks, the sporty midsize sedan sits on 19-inch alloys on Michelin tires. Housed under the wheel wells are 360-millimeter disc brakes.

Under the hood of the Hyundai Elantra N is the 2.0-liter turbo-gasoline engine that can deliver up to 276 horses and 391 Newton-meters of pulling power mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission).

Its stopping power comes from disc brakes (18-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear).

Offered in Polar White Pearl, Performance Blue, and Cyber Gray Metallic, the price of the Hyundai Elantra N is at P2.738 million.

    Ioniq 5 N details

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is 20-millimeters (mm) lower, 50-mm wider, and 80-mm longer compared to the standard trim — allowing it to ride on larger 21-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires.

The vehicle is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor in all-wheel-drive format mated to a single-speed reduction gear. It can provide as much as 641 horses and 770 Newton-meters of torque.

The mill is paired with an 84-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that lets the car cover 448 kilometers.

Its cabin comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a similarly-sized infotainment screen, suede and leather seats, five USB ports, and a pair of power outlets.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N can be had for P4.25 million in five color options namely Atlas White, Abyss Black Pearl, Cyber Gray Metallic, Performance Blue, and Performance Blue Matte.

Both available via indent orders, HMPH Managing Director Cecil Capacete told Zigwheels Philippines that the waiting period for the two is up to three months.
