Mitsubishi Xpander - Is it worth the price?
Mitsubishi Xpander made its way into the Philippines in 2018. It created a lot of hype even before it was launched in the country for many reasons; one being its design. So far, the Xpander’s journey has been quite a pleasant one, however, is it still worth the price? Let’s find out.
Like we mentioned before, the Xpander has got an attractive design that Mitsubishi likes to call as Dynamic Shield Concept. The Xpander is the most modern and futuristic-looking car in its segment. The most distinguishing feature at the front is the bumper-embedded headlamps that totally change the front fascia.
Apart from the odd headlight placement, the Xpander also gets a pair of sleek LED daytime running lights at the conventional headlight position. And together with all the chrome. The Xpander kind of stands out from the crowd.
Unfortunately, the side view of the Xpander isn’t as exciting because it has these prominent wheel arches that enhance the muscularity of the vehicle but the 16-in wheel size takes it all away. Although, we do like the strong character line and chrome treatment on the window sill.
What the Mitsubishi Xpander is from the inside?
Ans. We would have to give it to Mitsubishi for its clever space management. The Xpander’s cabin has got an abundance of space. There is a lot of head and legroom for the 2nd-row passengers. However, we would keep the last row reserved for kids.
Apart from the space, the Xpander also has interesting features like a 7-in touch screen infotainment system that gets Bluetooth, USB, AUX, and built-in navigation. Mitsubishi has also provided Easy Link which allows you to connect your smartphone with the infotainment system.
What are the engine options?
Ans. All the 4 variants of the Xpander are powered by the same 1.5-litre engine. It has been tuned to churn out 105 hp and 141 Nm. It is a pretty smooth engine and carries this considerably large MPV pretty well. It isn’t the most powerful engine that you will find in this segment but the difference in power is marginal.
Mitsubishi Xpander specs | |
Engine | 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol |
Displacement | 1499 cc |
Max power output | 105 bhp @ 6000 rpm |
Max torque output | 141 Nm @ 4000 rpm |

Now coming to the safety front, the Xpander has received a 4-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating which is quite commendable. Some of its key safety features are-
- Dual SRS airbags
- Active Stability Control (ASC)
- Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)
- Hill Start Assist (HSA)
- Hill Start Assist (HSA)
- Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
- Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) Body
Even though we are quite impressed with the Xpander’s overall safety rating, it is a bit disappointing to see only a couple of SRS airbags. Toyota Rush, one of Xpander’s main rival, has a total of 6 airbags!
Mitsubishi Xpander price starts at PHP 999,000 for its base model and its top-end variant will set you back by PHP 1.18 million. For that money, the Xpander provides-
- Modern looks
- Spacious cabin
- Touch screen infotainment system
- Cruise control
- 4-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating
Considering the overall package, we think that the Mitsubishi Xpander is worth its price.
What are the Mitsubishi Xpander alternatives?
Ans. At this price range, we would say that the Honda BR-V (starts at PHP 1.04 million) and Toyota Rush (from PHP 968,000) are the Xpander’s chief rivals.
What are the Mitsubishi Xpander colour options?
Ans. The Xpander is available in 5 different colours - Titanium Grey, Jet Black Mica, Sterling Silver Metallic, Red Metallic and Quartz White.
