Mitsubishi Xpander: Variants explained
Mitsubishi took the automobile market by storm when it launched its brand-new Xpander in the Philippines. The Xpander marked its entry into the country with a bang thanks to its modern, stylish, and attractive looks. Mitsubishi wanted more authority over the seven-seater segment and hence, came up with the Xpander.
Available in four variants, the Mitsubishi Xpander has got a lot to offer for the customers. Today, we are going to discuss everything about all the four variants. Let’s get started.
GLX M/T
Mitsubishi Xpander price is set at Php 999,000 for its base model, i.e., the GLX M/T. At this price point, you get a plethora of features. For starters, there is the Xpander’s very modern and sleek design. Mitsubishi wanted the Xpander to stand out in the crowd and it has certainly achieved the feat. At the front, we have Mitsubishi’s 2nd generation Dynamic Shield concept fascia which makes the car look premium and aggressive.
The prominent front grille along with the angry-looking LED daytime running lights looks phenomenal. The front bumper is quite sporty and features embedded headlamps which not only look super cool but also reduce glare for oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Moving to the rear end of the Xpander, we see a pair of LED combination tail lamps which have a distinctive design. Also, the roof-mounted rear spoiler makes things even more interesting.
One of the USPs of the Xpander is its class-leading cabin space. There is enough room to accommodate seven adults comfortably. Even the last row of seats are pretty decent. The seats are very well contoured and padded for that extra bit of comfort. There are dedicated AC vents for each row of seats so that all the occupants are at comfort.
Also, the 2nd- and 3rd-row seats can be folded in different configurations so that you can fit in different sized luggage. Talking about luggage, the boot of the Xpander comes with deeper and wider storage bay when compared to that of the competitors. Also, there is underfloor luggage storage with dividers to organise your things accordingly. For entertainment, there’s a 2-DIN tuner with USB and Aux support, iPod compatibility and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Mitsubishi Xpander specs reveal that the MPV is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder DOHC engine with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) technology. It produces 105 PS of max power at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 141 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It’s quite a refined and smooth engine and delivers good performance when needed. It is mated to a newly developed five-speed manual gearbox for that optimal combination of fuel efficiency and performance. The Xpander isn't a 4WD car. All of its variants are front-wheel driven models.
In terms of safety, there isn’t much to talk about. Mitsubishi has kept the list quite short. This base model gets dual front SRS airbags and ABS with EBD. These are the only ones worth mentioning.
GLX PLUS A/T
Sitting just above the base model is the GLX PLUS A/T with a price tag of Php 1.08 million. Mitsubishi has replaced the 15-inch wheels of the GLX M/T with new 16-in two-tone alloy wheels and added a multimedia entertainment system with a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports GPS navigation as well. The number of safety features in this model remain the same. The engine configuration is also the same but this model comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
GLS A/T
Priced at Php 1.1 million, the additional features on the GLS A/T variant include keyless operation system with start/stop engine button and a high contrast metre cluster with colorful multi-information display. The steering wheel has been wrapped in leather for that premium feel. The rest of the vehicle remains similar to the previous variant.
GLS SPORT A/T
This is the range-topping variant of the Xpander and is priced at Php 1.18 million. When compared to the GLS A/T variant, this one is different only in terms of safety equipment. Mitsubishi has added a few more safety features here. These include Active Stability Control (ASC), Traction Control (TCL), and Hill Start Assist (HSA).
These were the four variants of the Mitsubishi Xpander. All four of them are available in five colors - Titanium Grey, Jet Black Mica, Sterling Silver Metallic, Red Metallic, and Quartz White. Mitsubishi also provides numerous accessories like the front, rear, and side air dam (which come as standard on GLS SPORT), engine hood emblem, luggage mat, etc. so that you can add a bit more flair to the car.
