Motorsport Collectors Edition uncovered for Mercedes-AMG SL 63

MANILA: A special version of the SL 63 is being unveiled by Mercedes-AMG to commemorate the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance race car's appearance is reflected in this special vehicle.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsports Collector Edition is inspired by the model from the top division of motorsport in terms of its color progression from high-tech silver metallic to obsidian black metallic. The star pattern on the vehicle's flanks and the Petronas-colored contrasts, which are visible on the front apron, side sill panels, and rear diffuser, are both examples of this. Additionally, there are 21-inch AMG 10-twin-spoke forged wheels with Petronas-colored rim flanges that have a matt black finish. Black covers the electric soft top.

The AMG Aerodynamics package not only dramatizes the appearance: larger flicks on the front and rear apron, the larger rear diffuser and the active profile in the underbody improve the aerodynamic properties. The same applies to the downforce and aerodynamic drag. This all brings advantages for the driving characteristics at high speeds and for improved efficiency.

Moreover, the AMG Night package and the AMG Night package II enhance the visual appearance of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Collectors Edition". With the AMG Night package, selected exterior features are finished in high‑gloss black: the front splitter, side sill panels, mirror caps and the decorative trim in the rear diffuser. Added to this are darkened exhaust tailpipes.

The AMG Night package II adds further features in black chrome, including the radiator grille, typography and Mercedes star at the rear. In addition, the interior components of the headlamps and rear lights are darkened. The brake calipers of the AMG high-performance composite brake system are also painted black. The AMG fuel filler cap in silver chrome with "AMG" lettering also emphasizes the special status of the edition.

There are two different upholstery options for the standard AMG Performance seats: black Nappa leather/Microcut microfiber with red topstitching and an embossed AMG emblem in the head restraints, or black Nappa leather/Microcut microfiber with yellow topstitching and an embossed AMG emblem in the head restraints. The heated AMG Performance steering wheel with carbon fiber rim complements the AMG carbon fiber trim.

This highly well-equipped special model comes standard with the Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system, ambient lighting, the MBUX Interior Assistant, the Driving Assistance package, and the head-up display. When driving on a racetrack, AMG TRACK PACE offers assistance with a variety of data. The illuminated AMG door sill panels greet passengers with the AMG insignia, while the Load Compartment package adds day-to-day utility.

It has GUARD 360 installed in order to safeguard the priceless edition model. Every client also receives a personalized AMG indoor car cover with a logo. The S-Class has always been a vital component of Mercedes-AMG. Today, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance with AMG performance hybrid technology once again redefines the standard in the segment.

The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance combines the Handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo engine with an AMG-specific hybrid powertrain and a new expansion stage of the AMG high-performance battery (HPB). The new HPB 150 is rooted on the high performance and directly cooled battery cells of the renowned HPB 80.

The focus of the powertrain, however, is less on electric range and more on best-in-class performance. The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance has a combined system output of 791hp and 1,055lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 289kph. Systems like the rear-axle steering, AMG Ride Control+ suspension roll stabilization, and AMG Active Ride Control roll stabilization — all included as standard — guarantee comfort and driving dynamics.

“With our unique E Performance in the AMG S-Class, we are also setting another technological milestone in electrification in this segment,” Mercedes-AMG GmbH Technical General Manager Jochen Hermann said.

“Our exclusive high-performance battery is used in the S 63 with a significantly higher capacity than previously known, which increases the electric range. The performance hybrid layout with a combustion engine at the front and an electric drive unit at the rear axle not only offers a superior driving experience, but also significantly increases efficiency.

The optimized weight distribution, best possible utilization of torque and the very responsive power delivery promise driving dynamics and driving refinement at the highest level. In addition to the technically sophisticated powertrain, we also pulled out all the stops with the suspension to achieve the greatest possible spread between comfort and driving dynamics. For example, the combination of air suspension, rear-axle steering, and active roll stabilization is on board for the first time in an AMG S-Class.”
