New Audi Q7 illuminates way to advanced lighting tech
MANILA: In less than 20 years, vehicles have embraced the change from halogen to xenon to LED lighting.
Audi has led the market in this evolution, with lighting technologies distinguishing the models of the brand in each generation through the integration of high function with distinct design identity.
The Audi A8 provided adaptive lighting with automatic-dynamic headlight range control in 2003. Less than 10 years later, the Audi R8 launched more perceptible dynamic turn signals, marking an essential advantage in safety.
Audi introduced LED headlights that feature HD Matrix technology in 2017. The A8’s HD Matrix technology also had a laser that served as an extra high-beam light.
Audi began the digitalization of its so-called Matrix LED headlight in recent years. Digital OLED rear lamps broadened the range of designs for existing Audi models.
The developments paved the way for new prospects as light is also becoming a medium of interaction and communication. This allows Audi customers to choose from a range of customization and design alternatives.
The new 2021 Audi Q7 is one of the models that benefit from such possibilities. The vehicle, defined by signature SUV features of the existing design language of the auto brand, is currently available in the country and can be shown through the Audi Live View fully digital luxury experience.
The vehicle also features HD Matrix LED headlights that not only offer the best and most intelligent illumination possible, but also complements the contour and width of the seven-seater family luxury SUV. On its redesigned rear, the new Audi Q7 is equipped with elegant LED taillights characterized by technical graphics.
Other exterior features include a chrome strip at the rear that accentuates the vehicle's horizontal lines, a sill treatment that emphasizes the ground clearance of the SUV, two-part side air inlets, and the noticeable octagon-shaped Singleframe grille with six upright slats.
Aside from road illumination, the innovative lighting technologies of Audi visually connect all these systems through dynamic patterns and unique signatures.
The new Audi Q7 is also equipped with power-latching, soft-closing doors and an electrically operated tailgate as standard. The 20-inch cast aluminum wheels in 5-V spoke turbine design complement the upgraded design of the new Audi Q7.
The powertrain of the new Audi Q7 is technologically innovative. The vehicle has a 3.0-liter TDi V6 turbocharged diesel engine that produces a torque of 600Nm and a power output of 286hp. The engine is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and it also features Quattro all-wheel drive.
The engine is also fitted with a mild hybrid system that ensures excellent efficiency and performance. The system utilizes a belt alternator starter to provide power to a 48-volt main electrical system, with a compact lithium-ion battery that can store energy regained during braking.
The new Audi Q7 utilizes this energy to cruise for a maximum of 40 seconds with its engine turned off. It restarts quickly as soon as the accelerator is pressed.
The upgraded design of the new Audi Q7 also extends the length of the SUV to more than five meters, which leads to a more expansive interior. Class-leading elbow room and headroom guarantee that the Q7 can seat comfortably seven people.
Among the technological features of the newest Audi Q7 are innovative stability and traction control systems; the Audi Music Interface in the rear seat; tire pressure monitoring; four-zone automatic air-conditioning; ambient LED lighting package; Bang & Olufsen premium audio system; multi-function-plus steering wheel with paddle shifters; Parking Aid Plus with 360 degree display; MMI navigation plus with MMI touch response; the Audi virtual cockpit plus that has a high-resolution color information display; and a new digital operating system having two large touchscreens that offer acoustic and haptic feedback for touch controls.
