New Audi RS 4 Avant now available in PH
MANILA: Audi Philippines has officially launched the latest version of Audi RS 4 Avant. The concept of this sport wagon combines sportiness with practical utility. The new model features several fine-tuned details that further improve its capabilities.
The Audi RS 4 Avant now features a wider and flatter Singleframe grille with a three-dimensional honeycomb structure in gloss black. The Audi RS 4 Avant is also equipped with LED headlights with dynamic turn signals, large air inlets in the bumper with vertical flaps, and a narrow slit above the Singleframe that resembles the vents of the original Audi Sport Quattro.
Another feature derived from the Quattro is the Quattro blisters that are located over the wheel arches, making the car 30mm wider in front and back. Audi also offers the Black Optic Package that gives the car a bolder and sportier look.
The new Audi RS 4 Avant comes with a spacious cabin that can accommodate up to five people. Its luggage compartment has a 495-liter capacity, which can be increased to 1,495 liters when the rear seats are folded down.
The car is equipped with a 10.1-inch MMI touch display that serves as the control center of the new operating system. The touch-sensitive screen features high-resolution graphics and provides acoustic feedback. The special RS displays on the Audi virtual cockpit presents information on tire pressure, torque and power outputs, engine oil temperature, lap timings, acceleration measurements, and g-forces generated. A shift light alerts the driver to gear up when the engine’s rev limit is reached.
The Audi RS 4 Avant is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbo TFSI V6 gasoline engine that generates 450hp and 600Nm of torque. The car can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in 4.1 seconds. The TFSI V6 engine is 31 kg lighter than the V8 engine, which was used in the previous-generation model. The use of a lightweight engine benefits gross weight and axle load distribution, resulting to a better performance. The two turbochargers of the TFSI engine are mounted within the 90-degree interior “V” of each cylinder bank. The engine also features a new combustion process that reduces consumption by 17% versus the previous generation model.
The engine’s output is delivered to the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system through the sport-oriented eight-speed tiptronic transmission. “In regular driving, the system’s mechanical center differential directs 60% of power to the rear axle. If it detects wheel slip on one axle, it sends up to 70% of the power to the front, or up to 85% to the rear axle. This is all done with highly precise interaction with the control systems of the ESC and wheel-selective torque control,” Audi Philippines explained in a statement.
The Audi RS 4 Avant is equipped with high-performance tires that wrap over 20-inch, glossy black anthracite, five-spoke alloy wheels. It also comes with RS perforated composite discs and six-piston RS brake calipers that ensure precise stopping power.
The new RS 4 Avant also comes with the Audi drive select dynamic handling system that allows the driver to modify the behavior of the car’s engine, transmission, power steering, suspension, steering, Quattro sport differential, engine sound, and even air-conditioning. They can choose among five profiles: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and the customizable RS1 and RS2 modes.
