New manual Mitsubishi Strada GL 4WD - Additional bits
The newest offering of the Mitsubishi Strada variant— the Strada GL came silently and without any promotional notice. Together with the Strada Cab and Chassis variant, the Strada GL 4x2 MT was introduced and added to the Strada lineup. And now, a Strada GL 4x4 MT option is also made available.
Just because the GL variant of the Strada comes at the lower end of the lineup does not mean it has an inferior performance. In fact, those who do not like flashy trims and chose to emphasize performance might find this pickup surprisingly capable of navigating through rough terrains and paved roads. How does it compare with the GL 4x2 MT? Let’s see the additional bits available in the 4WD option in this comprehensive review of the Strada GL 4WD.

When it comes to dimensions, both the Strada GL 4WD and 2WD shares the same measurements including length, width, and height of the vehicle as well as the bed size. Both vehicles are also capable of seating 5 persons and have the same fuel tank capacity of 75 liters. However, the vehicles differ when it comes to gross vehicle weight with the 4WD option being heavier at 2,860 kg while the GL 2WD is at 2,760 kg. Curb weight is also different from the GL 2WD at 1,705 kg and the 2WD at 1,805 kg.
Engine capabilities
The Mitsubishi Strada GL is powered by the new 2.4-liter 4N15 4 in-line 16- valve DOHC clean diesel with variable geometry (VGT) MIVEC turbodiesel engine that you would find under the hood of the rest of the current Strada models. The Euro 4 compliant engine is capable of delivering a maximum output of 179 Hp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 430 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The 4WD drivetrain is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that replaces the old five-speed manual gearbox.
Design updates
The new Strada GL gets the same styling as the current generation of the Strada fleet. The front façade features the ubiquitous Dynamic Shield design found in vehicles of the Mitsubishi portfolio— particularly on its Mitsubishi Xpander and Montero Sport. However, the GL’s Dynamic Shield styling is more muted with no chrome trimmings— just the basic matte black finish. The muted design is repeated throughout the pickup with a matte black side mirror, door handles, and fog light housings to break the monotonous color and add accent to the simplicity of the GL pickup.
Features and safety specs
When it comes to features and safety specs, this Mitsubishi pickup variant comes with sufficient specs to make every ride comfortable and safe. Interior cabin features like multi-function steering wheel, manual AC system, entertainment system, and Aux-in, iPod, and USB port connectivity. For active and passive safety and driver-assist features, don’t expect bells and whistles despite being a 4WD option since this variant is at the lower end of the Strada lineup.
However, it does come with the much-needed safety features such as:
- Driver and front passenger airbags
- Electronic brake distribution
- Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution
- Engine immobilizer
- Security alarm
- Stability control
- Speed-sensing door locks
- ISOFIX
