New Range Rover Velar showcases new powertrains
MANILA: The Range Rover Velar has been made even more intelligent, sustainable, and appealing, thanks to the inclusion of an electric plug-in hybrid option, luxurious new design features, and innovative new infotainment technology.
The mid-size luxury SUV, which is positioned between the Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover Evoque, provides customers the ideal balance of design and innovation, including electric power.Moreover, the Range Rover Velar Edition offers a wide range of customer options and features various interior and exterior updates. These upgrades include 20-inch black alloy wheels and a black contrast roof. This is based on the R-Dynamic SE specification.
The Range Rover Velar Edition is also available in exclusive Lantau Bronze metallic paint, along with other color options such as Eiger Grey, Santorini Black, and the new Hakuba Silver.
The new 2.0-liter four-cylinder P400e plug-in hybrid provides a more efficient and smoother drive. It generates a combined 640Nm and 398hp from its 105kW electric motor and 296hp petrol engine.
New 3.0-liter straight-six Ingenium engines make an appearance in the Range Rover Velar for the first time. These are built in-house and are present as D300 (296hp) diesel and P400 (395hp) petrol all-wheel drive variants, with each equipped with air suspension as a standard for the classic Range Rover comfort.
Two options are also available for the new engines, namely mild hybrid electric vehicle technology (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) for an outstanding performance.
The new P400 straight-six engine produces 550Nm of torque and it includes an electric supercharger that is supported by a twin-scroll turbocharger and continuous variable valve lift (CVVL) for a more seamless performance.
The D300 diesel produces 650Nm of torque. Due to an innovative after-treatment system and series of sequential turbos, the outcome is a new Ingenium diesel unit, which is also currently available in the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover, and is regarded as one of the top-notch clean diesel engines worldwide.
The next generation four-cylinder Ingenium D200 (201hp) diesel is also included on the Range Rover Velar. In turn, the engine provides enhanced fuel efficiency, decreased CO2 emissions, and more power.
For its interior, the Range Rover Velar boasts of a simplistic design, along with incorporated digital displays that are equipped with the brand’s cutting-edge infotainment system, Pivi and Pivi Pro.
The elegant and intelligent system, which is provided as Pivi Pro from an S-specification kit, enhances the digital interface within the Velar. Through this, customers can obtain over-the-air software updates, which minimizes physical contact with a retailer.
An integrated data connection also allows customers to have access to apps, the latest maps, and vehicle software modules that have upgrades scheduled through the touchscreen at their most preferred time.
Customers who are music and movie enthusiasts will enjoy streaming media and music thanks to the direct integration of Spotify within the infotainment menu — a first for the Range Rover Velar. Data are also included and Bluetooth connectivity is made possible with two phones at the same time.
A calmer atmosphere can be obtained inside the Range Rover Velar due to the inclusion of active road noise cancellation, which keeps track of road surface vibrations. It also determines the opposite phase sound wave that is required to eliminate the noise that the occupants hear.
For cleaner air, a new cabin air filtration system is also present in the Velar, which minimizes the levels of of unwanted odors, pollen, allergens, and harmful particulates. This new system is included aside from the existing cabin air ionization feature.
A new second-generation wearable activity key is also available in the Velar. The shock-proof and water-resistant device integrates an LCD watch and enables customers to unlock, lock, start, or stop the vehicle, without the need for a conventional key fob.
Other new design features that are added on the Range Rover Velar include a new steering wheel design, which contains incorporated smart buttons that can acquire new advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) software updates.
