Nissan Altima-Te shows off the true AWD capabilities
MANILA: Teaser images and videos from automakers isn’t anything new. However, with auto companies, like Nissan, the teasers go beyond just that. This time around Nissan has taken a bold step by showing off the Altima sedan concept in a very different form (though it is just for the display purpose).
Nissan recently tested this special concept, called the Altima-Te AWD (or Ultimate) on deep snow in Canada and proved that it works extremely well. But for a fact, the concept model did not have conventional wheels, but off-road heavy-duty tracks that are seen in war tanks. And to accommodate them, the fenders (wheel arches) have a special design to allow a lot of space, while the ground clearance was humongous.
However, there is no way this concept would be even close to production, but it does manage to show off the company’s off-road prowess with the AWD drivetrain. And this is exactly the same thing the company did for other models in the past as well. We know the X-Trail, Pathfinder, and Murano go through a similar setup for its concepts. Hence, we can understand very well that Nissan likes showing off its off-road AWD capabilities with the help of such quirky concepts.
The regular Nissan Altima is a perfect family sedan and is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine that churns out 182 PS of power. Moreover, there is also a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that thumps out 251 PS of power, which is sent to either the front wheels or all the four wheels.
Even without the tracks, the new Nissan Altima AWD looks amazing. However, we don’t know for sure if the powerful AWD would be displayed in the Philippines or not.
