Nissan Updates the 2016 Altima, Offers Improved Mileage and Maxima-like design

MANILA: Nissan Altima is already the second best-selling mid-size sedan so far this year with Toyota Camry at the top position. The company is coming up with a refreshed 2016 Nissan Altima that gets a new Maxima-like exterior design and improved highway fuel economy. It also offers a new sport-oriented SR variant and available with active safety features.

Under the hood lies a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V-6, both mated to a CVT along with two powertrain options. The best thing is that the car’s overall footprint remains unchanged. But somewhere the 2016 Nissan Altima looks quite different from its predecessors. The front fascia gets a V-motion front grille and angular headlights with inbuilt boomerang-shaped LED. The new rear profile gets wider taillights. If you take a close look, the sedan resembles 2016 Nisan Maxima.

Nissan undoubtedly performed few tweaks to the Altima in order to gain a decent market share among its close competitors. All 2016 Altima 2.5 models, excluding the new SR variant, will offer improved mileage figures of upto 39 mpg on highways. The new model with a sleek aerodynamic profile along with a lower-friction engine helps in improving the overall efficiency of the vehicle.

Nissan revealed that the CVT has been re-tuned with artificial shift points in order to make the engine more responsive and adding sound eliminator to reduce engine noise in the cabin. The steering and the suspension also went through retuning.

The interior is least re-tweaked, the cabin consists of the revised centre stack and centre console. Nissan has added some new active safety features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and emergency braking.

It is expected that the 2016 Nissan Altima will likely be on sale by the end of this year. The prices are yet to be announced but it's expected to be similar to the starting price of the 2015 Altima 2.5 that costs around $23,125.
