Ram 1500 pickup wins Wards 10 Best Engines & Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy awards
MANILA: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Ram 1500 made the list of Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems for the second consecutive year. The pickup also won, for the 12th year in a row, the Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy award for the Large Pickup category.
Wards 10 Best Engines
FCA’s RAM 1500 pickup is included, yet again, in the prestigious list of Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems thanks to its 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with eTorque mild hybrid system fuel-saving engine. The fuel-efficient engine can deliver 305 hp of power and 353 Nm of peak torque and is mated to the standard TorqueFlite 845RE eight-speed automatic transmission power train.
The Pentastar V-6 with the eTorque engine allows the Ram 1500 to deliver a better fuel economy without compromising the capability and performance of the vehicle. The system works by replacing the traditional alternator on the engine with a belt-driven motor generator that performs several functions.
The motor-generator together with the 48-volt battery pack works synergistically to improve fuel efficiency, drivability, performance, and value for money. It has different modes of operation that allow for seamless stop-start functions and energy recovery with brake regeneration used to support increases in towing capacity and payload.
According to Tom Murphy, WardsAuto managing editor, Ram 1500 made the exclusive list because “the Ram 1500's 48-volt eTorque system is so smooth, quiet and consistently reliable that truck owners will appreciate the technology – and the money they can save at the pump."
For Micky Bly, Head of Global Propulsion Systems, Ram 1500’s “standard eTorque system delivers better fuel economy without compromising power or capability… [it> is a great example of giving consumers electrified powertrain technology that seamlessly works with their daily lives.”
Consumer Guide
Another laurel that FCA got for its Ram 1500 is the Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy award for the Large Pickup category. Consumer Guide employs automotive editors that extensively analyze, compare, evaluate, and extensively test vehicles to distinguish good values compared to other vehicles in their class.
Ram 1500 won the Best Buy award for the Large Pickup category because it outperforms the competition and set the benchmark on:
- Segment first 1,000 lb.-ft of torque with Cummins Turbo Diesel
- Towing capacity of 35,100 lb. with Ram 3500
- Payload capacity of 7,680 lb. with Ram 3500
- Most luxurious: Ram Limited with real wood, real leather, and 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen
- Best ride and handling with exclusive link coil rear and auto-level air suspensions
- Most interior space with Ram Mega Cab
- Most capable full-size, off-road pickup – Ram Power Wagon
- Most-awarded light-duty truck in America
- Highest owner loyalty of any half-ton pickup
- Over the last 30 years, Ram has the highest percentage of pickups still on the road
Besides the Ram 1500, FCA also won the Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy award in the Minivan segment for its Chrysler Pacifica. The Pacifica has consistently been winning in the said category for the last four consecutive years.
