Refreshed Nissan Altima Revealed At PIMS 2016
MANILA: For other markets, it may be old. However, for the Philippines, Nissan has shown the 2016 Altima at the ongoing Philippines Motor Show. Not only has its design been refreshed, the car has a host of features this time around. On the outside, the car gets new headlamps that have LED daytime running lights resembling those on the Juke and 370Z. The grille gets the V-motion design treatment. There are also the new bumper design and fog lamps. At the rear, the taillights get a new design while the trunk has been reshaped and a spoiler integrated into it. Lastly, the alloy wheels get two-tone treatment too.
Inside, Nissan claims the Altima has a smart cockpit that allows easy manipulation of controls (whatever that means). The features present inside the car include multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, powered leather seats, 9-speaker audio system by Bose, push-button start, sunroof, airbags, speed-sensitive electric power steering, vehicle dynamic control and active understeer control. With these many new features on the 2016 Altima, one would hope there would be changes on the mechanical front. However, that is not the case.
The Altima is powered by a 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine that puts down 180 PS of peak power and 243 Nm of peak torque. A CVT gearbox takes care of transmission duties on the Altima. The 2016 Nissan Altima retails for PhP 1,745,000 and can be had in three different colours - Obsidian Black, Cayenne Red and Pearl White. It would be interesting to see how the Altima is received, especially when it offers new features but the same old engine as its predecessor.
