SAIC Motor sells 285k NEVs from Jan.-Apr. 2024

MANILA: SAIC Motor Corporation — formerly Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation — sold some 285,000 new energy vehicles (NEV) in the first four months of 2024.

According to the state-owned car brand, the said figure translated to a 35.4 percent year-on-year increase in its NEV sales — allowing SAIC Motor to rank second among Chinese NEV manufacturers.

The aforementioned number is a cumulative effort among the brands under the SAIC Motor umbrella. Among the notable contributors were the IM L6, Roewe D7 DMH, and MG Cyberster.

Similarly, SAIC Motor’s partnership with brands like Volkswagen — with its ID series — and General Motors (GM) — with its Buick GL8 plug-in hybrid vehicle — helped push the numbers up in terms of NEV sales.

Sales from the SAIC-GM-Wuling NEVs also helped drive the numbers up.

The Philippine auto industry also gets to experience SAIC Motor’s NEV models.

Just recently, MG Philippines launched a hybrid variant of the MG 3. It packs a 1.5-liter hybrid powertrain system that can put out as much as 188 horses and 250 Newton-meters of torque.

It is priced at P1.088 million.
