Shell PH to vaccinate employees, service staff, and retirees
MANILA: Shell Philippines is set to initiate a comprehensive nationwide vaccination program for its regular employees, service personnel in its mobility sites, dealers, retirees, and other stakeholders.
To this end, the group led by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) has purchased 42,000 doses of Covovax vaccines from Unilab, Inc. The vaccination program will happen from August until November 2021. It will cover 5,000 full-time employees, nominated members of their family and households, and members of Shell Club 15 retirees.
Aside from PSPC, the program will also include Shell Philippines Exploration BV (SPEX), Shell Business Operations (SBO)–Manila, Shell Energy Philippines including Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI), and Shell Employees Savings and Loan Association (SESLA).
The vaccination will be scheduled to ensure that health protocols are properly maintained. The dates will be disseminated to the vaccine recipients through a digital platform.
According to Pilipinas Shell Country Health Manager Dr. Rose Rivera, the vaccination program will follow the government’s prioritization system. The Shell retirees, who are under the A2 category, will be first in line. They will be followed by adults with co-morbidities who fall under the A3 category. The employees in essential sectors will be the next in line as they fall under the A4 category.
The program includes around 16,000 forecourt service champions (FSCs) or frontliners who are serving over 1,100 Shell mobility sites across the country. This is part of the company’s efforts in ensuring the safety of around one million customers that visit its mobility sites daily.
Shell has also launched its “Good Jab” campaign that aims to educate, encourage, and monitor the vaccination status of its FSCs.
PSPC Vice President for Retail Business Randy del Valle said that it is important to include frontliners in the vaccination program as they are the ones “who need to ensure that it is safe to visit our mobility sites to get fuel or food or services for vehicle care and maintenance in the middle of this pandemic.”
In parallel, Pilipinas Shell President and Chief Executive Officer Cesar Romero stated, “We are committed to making COVID-19 vaccines available to our employees and extended workforce, not only for their safety and protection, but also because by extension, we provide a safe environment for customers who access our products and services via our mobility sites, as well as contractors and suppliers who help us operate our facilities and terminals nationwide.”
He continued, “Powering progress for the Filipino in the midst of the pandemic also means that we do our part in helping the country reach the numbers needed in terms of vaccinations to reach herd immunity so that we can start our economic recovery sooner rather than later.”
Shell will work with the Department of Health (DOH) and local government units (LGUs) to ensure that the vaccination program will be administered safely by professional vaccination teams in compliance with standard health guidelines.
