Toyota Calya and Daihatsu Sigra Launched In Indonesia
MANILA: GIIAS is about to start and even before its media day, two Japanese automakers have launched their much-awaited cars in Indonesia. PT Toyota Astra Motor and PT Astra Daihatsu Motor have jointly launched Toyota Calya and Daihatsu Sigra in Indonesia yesterday. Looking at the increasing demand of the MPV cars, Toyota continues to extend its line-up with the new Calya. Even Daihatsu has followed the footsteps of Toyota and introduced the twin, Sigra.
Both the MPVs are manufactured at the Daihatsu Karawang plant, incorporating local content ratio of 94%. Specially designed for the Indonesian market, the Calya and Sigra have kept the design simple and subtle. The front fascia features large chrome grille, flanked by fender-wrapped headlights. Both the MPVs also feature a lower black grille, silver accents and circular fog lights, the only difference being of horizontal position in Sigra and vertical position in Calya. Looking at the front styling, it can be inferred that both the MPVs are inspired from the much acclaimed Toyota Innova.
Under the hood, Toyota Calya and Daihatsu Sigra are powered by a 3NR-VE 1.2-litre Dual VVT-i engine, which delivers maximum power output of 88 PS and peak torque of 108 Nm. One can choose between the 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the requirement. Looking in the cabin, the standard features include, fabric seats, manual air-conditioning, power windows, multi-information display, 2-DIN multimedia system, and 60:40 split folding seats.
In terms of safety, both the MPVs are equipped with dual front SRS airbags, ISOFIX and anti-lock braking system (ABS). Being placed in the low-cost MPV segment, the features will be limited in both the MPVs but the deciding factor lies in the price range. The Daihatsu Sigra ranges between IDR 106-149 million (Php 380145.33 - 534355.22 estimated) whereas, the Toyota Calya ranges between IDR 130-150 million (Php 466215.96 - 537941.50 estimated). After the launch of much affordable MPV by Toyota, it has to be seen that how the sales of Toyota Avanza gets affected as the entry level Avanza price starts at IDR 183 million (Php 675,000).
