Toyota Calya & Daihatsu Sigra Pleases Onlookers at 2016 GIIAS with MPVs
MANILA: The corporate relationship between Toyota and Daihatsu go a long way back and currently latter is a fully owned subsidiary of the former. In-line with their strong connections, lot of their move coincide with one another. Take for instance the latest staging of Toyota Calya that share the GIIAS arena with its twin sibling Daihatsu Sigra. Apart from this, both these brands have a common distributor in the Indonesian market and their latest creations Sigra and Calya are manufactured by PT Astra Daihatsu at the Karawang Plant. At this 200,000 unit capacity plant, these are built with 98 percent local content.
Coming to detail analysis of both these similar looking cars, below are mentioned few pointers -
1. Exterior
Since both Toyota Calya and Daihatsu Sigra are the residents of MPV segment, their design language is rather simple and subtle. Apart from their logo badging both the cars have same facial features that include sleek chrome grille, large air dam, swept-back headlamps and circular fog lamps with different casing. On to the side can be seen prominent wheel arches, body colored door handles, and ORVM integrated turn indicators. The rear profile includes an L-shaped headlight setup, chrome boot lid, and a roof spoiler.
2. Interior
The interior like the exterior is simple but conveys full utility and comfort to the passengers. Inside Calya and Sigra one can find standard features like four power windows, multi-info display, rear air-con vents, silver trim and few chrome accents. On the entertainment front, both the cars are blessed with a 2-DIN head unit with connectivity features like USB and Bluetooth. The 60:40 second-row seat folds in one go while the last seat folds as a single unit.
3. Engine
Both these MPVs house a 3NR-VE 1.2-litre Dual VVT-i mill that effortlessly pumps out a maximum power of 88 PS along with a peak torque of 108 Nm. The said mill comes coupled to either with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. Further, enhancing driver’s confidence are present MacPherson struts and ventilated disc brakes at the front, and torsion beam brakes at the rear end.
4. Safety
Like all the other factors, safety is also a shared aspect between the two cars. Both these MPVs are stuffed with safety gears like SRS Dual airbag, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and ABS.
