Toyota Hilux - Buyers guide

Toyota is providing two engine options with the Hilux - 2.4 and 2.8 - and both of them are diesel engines. The 2.4-litre unit is a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces a max power of 147 hp and 343 Nm of torque whereas the 2.8-litre engine is tuned to churn out 174 hp and 450 Nm of peak torque. For the transmission, there is a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Toyota Hilux also comes with 4x4 and 4x2 drive options.

The Hilux might not be the best-looking pickup truck in the market but it certainly is not a turn off as well. It has its own unique appearance and charm and comparing it with some other, more expensive pickup truck would not be fair. Some of its key exterior features include LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED daytime running lights, attractive front chrome grille, and stylish alloy wheels.

If you go through the Toyota Hilux specs, you will find that it measures 5,335 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,815 mm in height, which means it is large enough to make its presence felt on the road. It also means that there is a good amount of space on the inside as well as on the loading bay.

 Hilux interior features

Talking about the inside, the Hilux comes with an all-black interior theme. Space would not be a problem here. When it comes to features, there is a large 6.5-in touch screen display that handles the entertainment. It supports MP3, Bluetooth, USB, and AUX. Toyota has also provided navigation, power windows, automatic AC, various cup holders, etc. Most of the features that you would come across are pretty basic which help to keep the cost in check.

Toyota is one of those few manufacturers which does not like to mess around when it comes to safety. The Hilux gets various safety features like ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability control, active traction control, hill start assist control, trailer sway control, brake assist, and a number of airbags.

There are a total of seven Toyota Hilux variants available in the Philippines. These are 2.4 CAB & CHASSIS 4X2 M/T, 2.4 J DSL 4X2 M/T, 2.4 E DSL 4X2 M/T, 2.4 G DSL 4X2 M/T, 2.4 G DSL 4X2 A/T, 2.8 G DSL 4X4 M/T, and 2.8 G DSL 4X4 A/T. The aforementioned features vary from variant to variant. This allows you to pick up the right vehicle depending on your requirements. The base model of the Hilux is priced at Php 829,000 which makes it one of the most affordable pickup trucks in the country. For this amount, Toyota is indeed providing a lot. The top-end trim of the Hilux costs Php 1.64 million.

Apart from all the features, there is another important thing about the Hilux that you should be aware of if you are considering to buy it - the brand value. Having the badge or logo of Toyota is more than enough to demonstrate the capabilities of the pickup truck. Toyota has been successfully making such vehicles for many years now and that is one of the reasons why it has become a synonym for reliability and durability.
