Toyota issues recalls on Avanza, Raize, Veloz

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling select Avanza, Raize, and Veloz units, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Region 12 announced.

Based on a social media post, the government arm shared that the safety campaign involved the aforementioned vehicle’s brake systems.

Under the different campaign, disk brake cylinder slide pin boots of select units from the three models need to be replaced.

“This is due to the assemble fault at the brake caliper assembly line, the assembly tools interfered with the slide pin boots during assembly, it caused damage to the boots.  If the water enters in the slide pin boots and cause the rust, it may lead to early wear of the brake pads,” the government agency explained.

Affected are Toyota Raize units produced from September 12, 2022-January 13, 2023; as well as the Avanza and Veloz examples made from September 12 -December 11, 2022.

In addition, Avanza and Veloz examples produced on November 3-24, 2022 are also the subject of another recall order involving an improperly-welded portion of the front side impact beam.

Per DTI Region 12, the improper welding condition in the side impact beam inside the right front door may not perform as designed during an impact collision.
