Toyota Motor PH updates Corolla Cross to an all-hybrid lineup

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has unveiled the newest iteration of the Corolla Cross.

Boosting the brand’s new-energy-vehicle roster locally, the crossover’s refreshed iteration is offered with hybrid powertrains across the board.

Powering all variants of the Thailand-sourced Toyota Corolla Cross is the 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder, 16 valve, double overhead cam engine with an electric motor. The mill combination can dish out 120 horsepower and 142 Newton-meters. Its unofficial fuel economy rating is around 23.3 kilometers per liter.

In terms of design, the middle variant comes with the biggest difference. The base trim has carried over the specifications that are present on the outgoing version’s mid-tier option while the top-of-the-line offering has basically been retained.

Size-wise, the new Toyota Corolla Cross has virtually retained the stance and dimensions of the outgoing version.

 The base and midgrade trims of the aforementioned five-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV) are 4,460 millimeters (mm) long; 1,825 mm wide; and 1,620 mm tall with a 2,640 mm-wheelbase and the top-spec variant, five millimeters shorter.

Packed with numerous aesthetic upgrades, the facelifted Toyota Corolla Cross features a new front fascia — with a honeycomb grille sporting a new modern twist. Vertical slats (chromed for the mid-grade option) are still fitted underneath to better airflow to the powertrain.

At the back, the vehicle’s combination lamp design has been redesigned to match the overall look.

Inside, more updates have been made available for the new Toyota Corolla Cross. Among them are the standard 10-inch infotainment system, black leather with dark grayish brown interiors (available on the mid-trim) and the 12.3-inch digital cluster exclusively fitted on the top-tier offering.

Significant amenities and technologies that can be found on the new Toyota Corolla Cross are the moonroof and sequential turn signals for the middle- and top-grades.

The new Toyota Corolla Cross shall be served as the most affordable hybrid offering from Toyota to date as its entry-level version has been priced lower than the top-of-the-line Yaris Cross. To note, the latter wears a P1.598-million price tag.
