Toyota Motor PH holds ceremonial roll-off event for next-gen Tamaraw

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has staged a ceremonial roll-off event for the next-generation Tamaraw. 

According to a post on TMP’s official Facebook account, the Japanese carmaker’s local subsidiary held the said affair at its automotive plant — where it is built — in Santa Rosa, Laguna. 

“Built for every Filipino, by Filipinos. Today, we witnessed history at the ceremonial roll-off event for the Toyota Next Generation Tamaraw,” the company wrote in its social media post. 

There, it showcased various iterations of the light commercial vehicle, which will be sold in the following variants. 

• Tamaraw Utility Van (long wheelbase)
• Tamaraw Aluminum Van
• Tamaraw Dropside
• Tamaraw Utility Van (short wheelbase)

Based on the model’s brochure on the company’s website at the time of writing, the next-generation Tamaraw will be powered by either a 2.3-liter diesel mill paired with a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed slushbox, as well as a 1.9-liter gasoline engine with a five-speed manual transmission. 

The former makes 147 horsepower (hp) with 343 to 400 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque while the latter dishes out 137 hp with 183 Nm.

Release date, pricing 

Zigwheels Philippines reported earlier that the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw will officially be launched next week, December 6. 

The nameplate’s local debut will take place simultaneously in different locations: 

• Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City
• SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City
• Trinoma, Quezon City
• Ayala Malls Solenad, Santa Rosa, Laguna
• SM City Pampanga, San Fernando, Pampanga
• SM City Cebu, Cebu City
• SM Lanang Premier, Davao City
• Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City

The price of the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw will reportedly start at around P800,000.
