VinFast maintains top spot in Vietnam auto market

MANILA: VinFast has maintained its place at the top of the Vietnamese automotive market — a position it has held in the past 10 months of 2024. 

The company has sold over 11,000 electric vehicles (EV) domestically in October. The said sales record reflected a 21 percent jump from the previous month, which brings VinFast’s sales to 51,000 units this year. 

Domestic best-sellers 

In its home country, VinFast’s best-sellers include the VF 3 and VF 5. The former accounts for some 5,000 units and the latter contributes a total of 2,600 units sold overall. 

Per VinFast, the key to the success of the aforementioned models are a strong foundation of pre-orders, robust production capacity, a growing dealership network, and a nationwide charging infrastructure.

Here in the Philippines, the VinFast VF 3 is priced at P745,000. Those wanting to bundle the city EV with a battery subscription service can cut the initial ownership cost to P645,000.

The VinFast VF 5 will set back Filipino car buyers some P1.191 million. With a battery subscription program, they can slash the initial cost to P992,000. 

Significant milestone for Vietnamese auto industry

The achievement of VinFast is seen by Vietnamese as a win for their domestic auto industry as it became the first local brand to have outsold foreign marques in its home market after just five years of operation. 

Additionally, VinFast is the first EV brand in Vietnam to outsell gasoline-powered competitors. Per the carmaker, it was able to achieve the said feat just two years after it transitioned to a pure EV company.

“VinFast currently offers seven electric vehicle models across various segments in its home market, from compact SUVs (sport utility vehicles) to large electric SUVs. With competitive pricing, VinFast's EVs offer compelling value propositions compared to gasoline-powered vehicles in the same segments,” the company wrote in a press release. 

“Beyond the domestic market, VinFast is actively expanding its global footprint to key markets in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, including the United States, Canada, Germany, France, and other regions,” it added.
