Volvo announces new facility for next-gen premium EV development
Mobility Innovation Destination Torslanda will allow Volvo to emulate future cities and develop EV technologies that are ahead of the times
MANILA: Volvo Cars has announced that it is building a new facility where the company will build its next generation of premium electric cars.

Per Volvo, the said building will allow the company to emulate thye future society where it envision its cars to be a part of.Per the Swedish carmaker, the new facility will be called Mobility Innovation Destination Torslanda and will be situated in Gothenburg. Here, Volvo Cars will test emerging technologies in an environment designed to emulate the future society that the brand envisions its cars will be a part of.
So, rather than developing technologies like wireless car charging, vehicle-to-grid bi-directional charging, and self-driving capabilities solely in labs and development centers, Volvo Cars will be able to test, validate and deploy its innovations in a city-like environment.
In addition to setting up buildings and facilities for testing, engineering, and materials, Volvo Cars plans to expand its campus in Torslanda to house start-ups, business partners, and suppliers.
“With this initiative we aim to create an ecosystem where we can develop the future of mobility – including cars, the technology inside of them and the infrastructure around them, all hand in hand,” Volvo Cars Chief Executive Jim Rowan explained.
“Our ambition is to pioneer technology, attract global talent and connect with other cutting-edge businesses,” he added.

In the Philippines, Volvo customers are already experiencing the auto firm’s strides in electrification with various models that run on hybrid and fully electric powertrain. These include nameplates like the XC90, CX60, XC40, and S90 mild hybrid vehicles as well as the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge pure electric cars.
