Volvo Cars Q2 global sales up by 15%

MANILA: Volvo Cars’ global sales for the second quarter of 2024 have increased by 15 percent year-on-year.

According to the Swedish carmaker, it sold a total of 205,400 cars from April to June this year. The said jump in numbers — Volvo Cars explained — was driven by the performance of its electrified models, both plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and battery-electric vehicles (BEV).

“We delivered a strong second quarter performance in 2024 with record underlying profitability, demonstrating our ability to create value despite a complex geopolitical and economic environment,” Volvo Cars Chief Executive Jim Rowan said.

“Our core operational momentum remains on a firm footing, thanks to the strength of our balanced strategy, product portfolio, and our agility in responding decisively to headwinds,” he added.

Sales of Volvo Cars’ electrified models were up by 43 percent in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same time period last year.

In Europe, Volvo Cars’ best-selling PHEV is the XC60 plug-in hybrid while the EX30 small sport utility vehicle (SUV) was among its top three best-selling BEVs in the region.

“Our brand and values around safety and sustainability, as well as our unique technology approach, continue to resonate strongly with customers,” Rowan explained.

“During the year we increased our market share in Europe to the highest level ever and grew our share in the US (United States) as well, while managing our market position in China. I am pleased that we did so with pricing discipline,” he concluded.

Electrified Volvo models in PH

In the Philippines, Volvo Cars is also constantly pushing for sustainable mobility with its lineup of BEVs and hybrids.

Volvo Cars’ local wing has a decent roster of mild hybrids, which consists of the CX90, XC60, and XC40 SUVs. Rounding up the list is the S90 sedan.

Its pure electric models in the country are the C40 Recharge crossover and the XC40 Recharge SUV.
