  • Touted as an electric vehicle that is big in performance but comes in a compact form factor, the latest addition to Volvo’s local subsidiary offers would-be owners a sustainable ride peppered with stylish Swedish flair.

    Exterior

Some of the notable exterior features of the Volvo EX30 include the eye-catching Thor’s Hammer LED headlamps. The said lights flank the crossover’s seamless fascia where the company’s emblem sits at the center.

The side profile of the all-electric vehicle is highlighted by a set of large 19-inch, geometric wheels shod in 245/45 series tires. Also found on its edges are black claddings under the doors, which seem to provide design continuity and connect the front and rear bumpers.

Blacked-out pillars, black side mirrors, and a dark-hued panoramic roof round up the noteworthy appointments one can spot from this angle.

The rear end of the Volvo EX30 gets a power tailgate, LED rear combination lamps, which echo the unique fore of the electric crossover.

    Interior

The cabin of the Volvo EX30 is packed with smart and sustainable features.

Drivers are welcomed by a flat-top, flat-bottom steering wheel with multi-functional controls. The stylish seats with lumbar support and wrapped in eco-friendly upholstery add some level of opulence to the crossover’s cabin atmosphere.

The Volvo EX30 decided it did not need an instrument cluster — typically seen past the steering wheel — and instead “centralized” the entire system. On that note, the speedometer and other relevant driving information can be found on its 12.3-inch central display.

Navigation, audio, and other controls can also be accessed through the horizontally oriented screen. Music is played through the vehicle’s Harman Kardon premium sound system.

    Clever storage space

Despite its small size, the Volvo EX30 comes with plenty of clever storage options.

For example, the center armrest holds a sliding drawer while its door pockets are some of the largest we have seen so far.

It also has a centrally-mounted glove box, a wireless charging tray that can hold one’s smartphones, pockets for gadgets at the back of the front seats, and a storage box under the center armrest.

    Electric powertrain

Propelling the Volvo EX30 is an electric motor — and an automatic transmission — located at the crossover’s rear wheel axle. Paired with a 69 kilowatt-hour battery, it can generate up to 272 horsepower with 343 Newton-meters of torque.
