Volvo makes speed limiters and Care Key standard in all vehicles
MANILA: The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified speeding as one of the major causes of collision-related road injuries and fatalities. The prevailing concern regarding speeding is that beyond specific speeds, smart infrastructure design and in-car safety technology are not sufficient to avoid such deaths and injuries in cases where an accident occurs.
Volvo Cars solution to this problem is to install a limiter in each new vehicle to cap speed at 180 kph. Aside from this new safety feature, all Volvo cars also come with a Care Key.
The Care Key enables drivers to set different speed limits for vehicle before allowing family members or inexperienced drivers like teenagers to use them.
Both the Care Key and speed cap deliver a strong message regarding the hazards of speeding, emphasizing the position of Volvo Cars as a global leader in terms of security and safety. The speed limitation and Care Key show how automakers can be actively responsible and determined to attain zero traffic fatalities by promoting better driver behavior.
The top speed limit has been a controversy since its announcement, as some observers were skeptical regarding the rights of automakers to enforce such restrictions through current technology.
The Philippines recognizes the risk of speeding. Speed limits have been set under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, albeit needs to be updated to current standards.
Volvo's Care Key and speed limited may help Filipino drivers not just in complying with the mandated speed limits but in ensuring their safety and security, especially when driving in busy streets and national highways.
This new initiative is part of Volvo Cars' effort to achieve a future with zero severe injuries and traffic fatalities.
