WATCH: MG teases new HS ahead Goodwood Festival of Speed debut

MANILA: MG will reveal the new HS at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed.

In a YouTube video posted by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Motor-owned car brand, it revealed silhouettes of the crossover’s latest iteration.

During the 25-second clip, MG showcased the muscular outline of the new HS. Compared to the currently available United Kingdom-spec model, the newest version of the nameplate appear to have updated headlamps, wheels, taillamps, and grille.

It also seems to have a more muscular bonnet and an overall beefier body.

For those eager to find out, the Goodwood Festival of Speed will happen from July 11-14, 2024.

Based on Roewe RX5?

Word on the web says that — pretty much like the Philippine-market MG G50 Plus is based on the Maxus G50 — the new HS could be based on the third-generation Roewe RX5. Both Maxus and Roewe are brands under the SAIC Motor umbrella.

We are yet to find out if the rumor is true but the wheels are a dead giveaway.

For reference, here are the wheels on the Roewe RX5.

If so, it could be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (that makes some 188 horsepower) mated to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission system.

One feature we are excited about, which might be carried over to the new MG HS, is Roewe RX5’s 27-inch panoramic intelligent sliding screen that combines both the instrument cluster and infotainment system.

Depending on the need, it can be slid onto the side of the driver, the passenger, or in the middle of the dashboard. The icons displayed on the screen also moves depending on how the panel is oriented.

It is also worth noting that the Roewe RX5 also has a plug-in hybrid variant. So, MG could offer the new HS in a similar powertrain system.
