DILG donates 10 scooters to MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy

MANILA: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has donated 10 motorcycle units to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's (MMDA) Motorcycle Riding Academy. 

Per DILG, the donated fleet of motorbikes were all Honda BeAT 110 FI Standard (Automatic) motorcycles. 

“I’m in full support of the MMDA and the Motorcycle Riding Academy. This Academy, malaking bagay ito para maturuan ang ating mga kababayan kung paano ang gagawin ‘pag may injury, kung paano bumagsak, lalo na para sa ating mga kabataan (this Academy is a huge step in teaching our countrymen on what to do when injured, when they fall down, especially the youth),” DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos was quoted saying. 

“Sana makatulong itong mga motor na ito sa lalong paglago ng Motorcycle Riding Academy ng MMDA (we hope that these motorcycles can help in the growth of the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy),” the DILG Secretary added.

Abalos also said that he hopes the Academy will be replicated in different parts of the country to lessen motorcycle-related deaths and accidents. “If this could only be replicated in certain LGUs, especially encourage motorcycle riders to wear helmets, then this could be of great help,” he added. 

According to the agency, the move to hand over a small fleet of motorcycles is aimed at helping the program decrease motorcycle-related accidents in Metro Manila. The MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy will officially open on September 27, 2023.
