Honda PH launches EM1 e: electric scooter

MANILA: Honda Philippines Incorporated (HPI) has launched the EM1 e: electric scooter.

HPI’s EM1 e: is also said to have the ideal size for Filipino riders.

It has a seat height of 740 millimeters (mm) and a ground clearance of 135 mm. Its wheelbase is 1,300 mm, which results in a smoother ride experience.

Powering the Honda EM1 e: is a brushless, in-wheel, three-phase motor (located at the rear wheel of the electric scooter) with a maximum power of 2.2 horsepower and a maximum torque of 90 Newton-meters. Power is drawn from a proprietary battery pack. The electric two-wheeler consumes some 47 watt-hours per kilometer.

According to HPI, the all-electric powertrain used for the Honda EM1 e: not only delivers zero emissions but also contributes to reducing noise pollution and allows the rider to benefit from less vibration overall.

Those who sit atop its saddle can choose from two drive modes, namely “Standard” and “Econ.” The former — HPI pointed out — can deliver around 41.3 kilometers (km) of all-electric range while the latter can do more with 48 km on a single charge.

The aforementioned numbers — clarified HPI — are based on Honda’s internal test conditions.

Energy is derived from the brand’s Honda Mobile Power Pack e: battery unit. It is made with lithium-ion and has a capacity of 26.1 amperes with power of 50.26 volts (V).

To juice it up, EM1 e: owners will have to use the Honda Power Pack Charger e:, which has a rated charging voltage of 58 V, a rated charging power of 270 watts, and a rated charging current of 6.75 Ah.

The Honda Mobile Power Pack e: measures 156.3 mm long, 177.3 mm wide, and 298 mm tall. It weighs 10.2 kilograms (kg). On the other hand, the Honda Power Pack Charger e: has an overall length of 434 mm, an overall width of 244 mm, and an overall height of 227 mm. It weighs 5.3 kg.

Per HPI, the battery takes some six hours to fully charge.

The Honda EM1 e: — available on all Honda flagship stores — is priced at P155,400 and comes with a two-year warranty coverage. Meanwhile, the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: is priced at P42,000 with the Honda Power Pack Charger e: costing P18,000.

In addition, the electric scooter rolls out of the factory with a standard-issue utility box frame, so its would-be owners won’t have to purchase aftermarket parts to accommodate their favorite top boxes.

Relatedly, the EM1 e: is one of the base models used for the electric motorcycles Honda will supply Yamaha as the former has entered an agreement with the latter to become an original equipment manufacturer provider.
