Choppy transmission doesn’t merge into traffic well
While the Ford Explorer has a spacious cabin and sleek design, I've had severe issues with its transmission. The transition from first to second and second to third gears is noticeably choppy, causing discomfort when stop-and-go driving, which is prevalent in my real estate profession. This problem is especially annoying when merging into traffic. Despite these issues, the Explorer is very appealing from the outside and has simple controls that make it easy to use. However, potential purchasers should be wary of the transmission's inconsistent behavior.
