Triumph Trident 660 Design

Triumph has made a smart move by styling the Trident 660 as a blend of retro and new-age roadster. The result looks classy, but at the same time, has the right amount of aggression for a modern motorcycle. However, what can work against the Triumph Trident 660 is its dimensions – while they do play a big role in making the motorcycle feel agile and light-weighted, they also make the motorcycle tad too small for a big capacity middleweight motorcycle.

At the front, the Triumph Trident 660 has a rounded headlamp like a neo-retro roadster, which though looks properly modern with its all-LED arrangement and daytime running LEDs. Even the LED turn indicators, which are positioned on the upper corners of the headlamp, help in making the motorcycle look new-age when viewed head-on. That being said, the motorcycle lacks a proper visor above it, while the front fender looks catchy with its edgy front tip.

The fuel tank of the Triumph Trident 660 is the only part of the motorcycle which adds some visual bulk to it. This fuel tank gets well-padded knee recesses, which help the rider in having good grip levels while cornering. Apart from that, the radiator shrouds, with their sleek design make the motorcycle feel a bit more premium. The large 660cc engine of the motorcycle is finished in a theme of black, which gets three-into-one exhaust pipes ending up in a stubby underbody exhaust can.

The Triumph Trident 660 follows a minimal approach in its design, with its slim-looking, floating tail section that accommodates a long and well-padded seat. The slim underbody panel of the tailpiece accommodates a small U-shaped LED tail lamp but doesn’t get any traditional rear fender attached to it. Instead, the motorcycle gets a rear tyre hugger with LED turn indicators and a license plate attached to it, which makes the rear profile of the motorcycle look nice.

The Triumph Trident 660 gets a fully-digital instrument console which has two separate LCD housings. The upper housing of this console gets has a speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge. The other LCD screen placed below it is a TFT screen which has a gear indicator, clock and a few warning lamps.

Trident 660 Ride & Handling

Sitting on a tubular steel trellis frame, the Triumph Trident 660 has a suspension combination of 41mm upside-down separate functioning cartridge forks at the front and mono-shock with remote hydraulic preload adjustment at the rear, both of which are sourced from Showa. The motorcycle has a 120/70 ZR17 front tyre and 180/55 ZR17 rear tyre wrapped over 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels. For halting duties, the Trident 660 is equipped with dual 310mm discs at the front and a single 255mm disc at the rear.

Triumph Trident 660 Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Triumph Trident 660 is powered by a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-three, which is currently the smallest three-cylinder engine from Triumph. Paired to a 6-speed gearbox, this engine pumps out 81 PS of maximum power and 64 Nm of peak torque output.

Trident 660 Braking & Safety

For an entry-level middleweight roadster, the Triumph Trident 660 is decently armed with features like dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control, slip and assist clutch and two riding modes – road and rain.

Triumph Trident 660 Verdict

The Triumph Trident 660 ticks all the right boxes for a rider who is new to middleweight motorcycle – it feels light and nimble, packs in just the right amount of power without going overboard, gets all the essential features for a motorcycle of this size and feels at home on both urban roads and highways.
