Yamaha is offering the Mio Aerox sports scooter in two variants – Standard and S. Both variants of the Yamaha Mio Aerox share the same design, engine, and other mechanical components. However, they come with their own set of colours exclusive to them, with the S variant having a couple of additional safety features.

The Yamaha Mio Aerox prices in the Philippines start at PHP 123,000 for the Standard variant, which comes in four colour options. Meanwhile, the more premium S variant, which is available in two colour options and ABS as an additional safety feature, is priced at PHP 146,000. 

Which is the most value-for-money variant of the Yamaha Mio Aerox?

The more premium S variant of the Yamaha Mio Aerox is almost PHP 23,000 more expensive than the Standard variant and gets only a dual-channel ABS as an additional feature. Considering how crucial ABS can be in daily riding conditions, we do recommend the S variant over the Standard one, despite the hefty premium it carries over the latter. 

What features does the Yamaha Mio Aerox get?

Inspired by the sharp-looking sport bikes from Yamaha, the Mio Aerox looks like a proper sports scooter, with a pointy-looking front apron and dual LED headlamps covering its lower side edges. These LED headlamps come equipped with daytime running LEDs over them, while the handlebar cowl comes fitted with a compact triangular tinted visor. The Yamaha Mio Aerox also comes with a spine in the middle of its floorboard, accommodating the 5.5-litre fuel tank in its central part. The back portion of the front apron has a small storage compartment, which also has a USB charging port within it. 

Coming equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels as standard, the Yamaha Mio Aerox has a full-LCD instrument console, which has a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, odometer, trip meter, service indicator, average and instantaneous fuel efficiency and distance-to-empty. The Yamaha Mio Aerox also comes equipped with pillion grab handles recessed below the tail section panels, a compact LED tail lamp, a start-stop system, a large 24-litre under-seat storage compartment, and a smart key with keyless ignition.

How spacious is it?

Due to its central spine in the middle of its floorboard, the Yamaha Mio Aerox loses out on some practical points. However, the split floorboard is decent enough to accommodate the feet of even taller riders, and for them, the curvaceous seat also offers enough support and space. Another advantage working in the favour of Yamaha Mio Aerox is its capacious under-seat storage compartment, which is huge enough to store a full-sized helmet and some more small items at once. 

What engine and transmission options are available?

Yamaha’s tried-and-tested four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 155cc engine, which powers a range of other products like R15, MT-15, XSR155, and Sniper 155, also powers the Mio Aerox. However, unlike the engine in other mentioned models, this particular engine in the Mio Aerox is paired with a belt-driven automatic transmission and not a 6-speed manual gearbox. Here in the Yamaha Mio Aerox, this engine delivers a maximum power output of 15.4 PS and a maximum torque output of 13.9 Nm, making it one of the most powerful 150-160cc scooters. 

What’s the mileage of the Yamaha Mio Aerox?

Yamaha India has tested the fuel efficiency of Aerox under the ARAI certification norms and claims 48.62 kmpl in ideal riding conditions. However, the scooter is capable of delivering fuel efficiency in the range of 40-45 kmpl in usual daily riding conditions. 

How safe is the Yamaha Mio Aerox?

For a 150-160cc scooter, the Yamaha Mio Aerox is decently equipped with safety features like a single-channel ABS, keyless ignition and Yamaha Y-Connect telematics system. However, the ABS is only available in the S variant. Both variants have the same braking setup comprising a 230mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum at the rear. 

How many colour options are there?

The Standard variant of the Yamaha Mio Aerox is on sale with four colour options in the Philippines – Race Blue, Matte Grey, Cyan Storm and Yamaha Black. Meanwhile, the two colour options restricted for the Mio Aerox S variant are Matte Black and Premium White. In all these colour schemes, the Yamaha Mio Aerox has vibrant graphics which go well with the sporty looks of the scooter.

The central spine reduces some of its practicality and floorboard space, but besides that, the Mio Aerox is a hoot to drive with the tried-and-tested 155cc engine. Thanks to a set of 14-inch wheels and sport-tuned suspension, the Mio Aerox handles like a dream, easily making it one of the best handling scooters on sale in the Philippines. The overall styling and equipment levels are spot on too.

Besides its stable mate and relatively conservative-looking Yamaha NMax, the Yamaha Mio Aerox also competes with other 150-160cc sports, neo-retro, and maxi scooters like Honda Click 160, Honda PCX 160, Kymco Like 150i, Skygo Lance 150, SYM Jet X150, SYM Cruisym 150 and Peugeot Django 150.

Other things to consider

While the Yamaha Mio Aerox is a very desirable scooter with thrilling performance and handling, its sporty nature might not go well with all sections of buyers. For those who want a slightly more conventional stance and design, he has the option to get the same mechanical underpinnings in the Yamaha NMax, a more family-oriented scooter in the same price range as the Mio Aerox.
