Suzuki launched the all-new Ertiga at the 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show. The company has not officially unveiled its price, but a source close to Suzuki revealed that the new model will carry a higher price tag (approx. by Php30k) than the ongoing version.
Post the 2015 facelift this is the first major update Suzuki gave to the Ertiga. Overall the new Ertiga comes with a bunch of changes that makes it a worthy entry in the segment.
It’s not until August 2018 that the next-generation Ertiga would come to the Philippines. Therefore, we decided to give you a more up close and personal taste of the MPV via a first look review.
Exterior - Design language, platform and more
The new Ertiga sits strong on Suzuki’s brand new HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new Swift and Dzire. Thanks to the new base, Ertiga now gets a rigid and lighter underbody that contributes to its fuel-efficiency and performance output. Upfront, the next generation Ertiga receives a hexagon-shaped chrome grille that seamlessly merges with the projector-type angular headlamps. The bonnet is revised, and it gets striking muscular lines that meet with the new bumper and C-shaped fog-lamp casing. The side profile looks more or less same, except for the new high-tech features that the ongoing model skipped like new 15-inch alloy wheels, turn indicator infused electric ORVM, and smart entry door.
A mere glance at Ertiga’s rear profile and it reminds of the ongoing Suzuki WR-V. Both the cars share many design similarities say for the L-shaped LED tail light and slightly angled rear windscreen. Further, the number plate gets a sleek chrome detailing and the rear bumper is redesigned giving the MPV a slimmer look.
Suzuki has revised the overall dimension spec of the facelifted Ertiga. The MPV has grown in length by 99 mm, width by 40 mm, and height by 5 mm. It dimension spec now reads 4,395 mm X 1,735 mm X 1,690 mm (L X W X H). The ground clearance and wheelbase, however, remains same at 180 mm and 2,740 mm respectively.
Interior - Cabin look and feel
Similar to the exterior, new Ertiga displays a redesigned cabin that’s larger than the ongoing model. Also, from the design perspective, it shares clues with the new Swift and Dzire. However, the dashboard is entirely new, featuring for the first time in a Suzuki car. The MPV looks stylish than before and gets a new beige and brown upholstery, and wooden trim highlights all over.
The 2018 Ertiga spots vertical air vents that run on both side of the new 6.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. On the amenity front, the MPV has a lot to offer with rear air-con vents, ventilated cup holders, ample boot space, front and rear power socket, and connectivity features like Bluetooth, AUX, and USB.
Engine - Performance update
The 2018 Ertiga is powered by the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine. This mill powers all the new Suzuki cars like Swift, Dzire, Ciaz, and Brezza. Developed entirely in-house, the new K15B engine is a big jump over the current 1.4-litre option. This petrol motor produces a maximum power of 104 PS along with a maximum torque of 138 Nm. An increase of 13 PS and 8 Nm over the ongoing Ertiga. As for the transmission, Suzuki is giving an option of a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox. The fuel consumption is rated at 16.7 kmpl for automatic and 18 kmpl for manual transmission.
Talking about its ride quality, we are eagerly waiting to lay our hands on the new Ertiga, which is scheduled to happen soon. We'll then give you a first-hand update on its ride quality.
Variants
The new Ertiga is offered in four variants - GA, GL, GX, and GX ESP. Amongst all the GX ESP is the top variant and is included for the first time in the Ertiga line-up. The only difference between the GX and GX ESP trim is that the later comes turned with advanced safety features like Electronic Stability Program and Hill Start Assist. In addition to standard safety features like - SRS airbag, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX.
