Hyundai Tucson Hybrid vs. the competition

The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (HEV) is now available in the Philippines. As such, local buyers who are in the market for a fuel-efficient ride have another potent option to consider. 

Power-wise, the Tucson Hybrid's 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid system can produce 231 horsepower (hp) and 367 Newton Meters (Nm) of torque. The said engine is also paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

For its exterior, the all-new Hyundai hybrid model sports a contemporary design featuring a wide grille, the brand’s signature parametric jewel hidden daytime running lamps, a sharp and angular side section, and a wide and planted-looking rear end. 

Its interior, meanwhile, boasts numerous creature comforts, such as leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate controls, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, a similarly sized digital gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and loads of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), among others. 

Price-wise, the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid retails at P2.29 million.

Toyota RAV4 HEV

Toyota’s main entry into the local hybrid-powered compact crossover segment is the RAV4 HEV. 

The RAV4's power comes from a 2.5-liter inline-4 hybrid system, which can produce a combined total of 215 hp and 221 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission. 

 

On the outside, the RAV4 showcases an angular look enhanced by a set of sharp LED lighting fixtures, square-shaped wheel arches, and a wide mesh grille. For added usability, the Toyota model comes fitted with rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, power-folding side mirrors, and a power tailgate. 

The interior of the RAV4, meanwhile, is fitted with plenty of amenities such as leather upholstery, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, an eight-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. 

Safety for the RAV4 is handled by an array of ADAS technologies, but it also comes with a 360-degree view monitor, clearance sensors, and many other safety-oriented features. 

Pricing for the Toyota RAV4 ranges from P2.061 million to P2.371 million. 

GWM Haval H6 HEV

One of the latest entries into the Philippines hybrid compact crossover segment is the Great Wall Motor (GWM) Haval H6 HEV. 

Under the hood of the Haval H6 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline mill paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission. At maximum, the said model’s electrified powertrain can produce up to 240 hp and 530 Nm of torque. 

At a glance, the Haval H6 assumes a tall-riding stance typical of contemporary crossovers. However, it has some attractive details, such as its very wide “Star Matrix” grille pattern, its pair of ultra-high flow LED headlamp clusters, and its wide-opening automatic tailgate. 

Other exterior features of the Haval H6 include roof rails, power-folding side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers, among others. 

Inside, the GWM model boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, leather-clad seats, a wireless smartphone charger, and a heads-up display, among others. 

The Haval H6 also boasts plenty of ADAS bits, an event data recorder (dashboard camera), a 360-degree view camera, parking sensors, and many other safety features. 

Pricing for the GWM Haval H6 ranges from P1.788 million to P1.908 million.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Another hybrid compact crossover rivaling the Tucson HEV is the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). 

Propelling the Outlander is a 2.4-liter gasoline PHEV system that can produce up to 126 hp and 199 Nm of torque. Power, meanwhile, is sent to the model’s all-wheel-drive system through a hybrid-specific automatic gearbox. 

 

On the outside, the Philippine-spec Outlander was kitted out with a contemporary design highlighted by the Japanese marque’s signature Dynamic Shield Grille. It also boasts full LED lighting, a power tailgate, power-folding side mirrors, a power-sliding sunroof, and roof rails. 

For its interior, the Outlander PHEV gets plenty of amenities. Its lineup of creature comforts includes a dual-zone automatic climate control system, leather upholstery, an eight-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital gauge cluster, among others. 

Safety-wise, the Mitsubishi PHEV model also received several ADAS features. 

Pricing for the Outlander PHEV’s sole variant in the Philippines is set at P2.998 million.
