Jetour Ice Cream EV: strengths and weaknesses

With electric vehicles (EV) quickly becoming popular in the Philippine market, car brands have been working hard to introduce models that will fit a variety of niches. BYD Cars Philippines, for example, has the compact-sized Atto 3 and the very sporty Seal. Kia Philippines, on the other hand, brought in the family-friendly EV9 at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show. 

Jetour Auto Philippines Incorporated, on the other hand, went in the other direction with its Ice Cream EV. It is small, so tiny, in fact, that it might just be one of the cutest nameplates in the country right now. It is also quite affordable. As such, it makes for a very attractive buy for folks looking for a capable city car. 

But does the Jetour Ice Cream EV have any weaknesses? And what are its key strengths? Let’s find out here. 

Pros

Decent range

White it looks cute, the Ice Cream EV actually returns a good deal of range for what you’re paying for. 

From a single full charge of its 13.9-kilowatt-hour battery, the Jetour EV nameplate can cover up to 170 kilometers, according to the New European Driving Cycle. 

Output-wise, it also can produce a relatively decent 27 horsepower and 85 Newton-meters of torque. Sure, it won’t impress in terms of power, but it has enough oomph to deal with in-city driving. Jetour likewise indicated that the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, as such, it can indeed handle highway speeds. 

Other notable mechanical specifications of the Jetour Ice Cream EV include a fixed ratio gearbox, a front MacPherson strut suspension, and a rear multi-link suspension. It is also a rear-wheel-drive vehicle.

While it can only fit up to four occupants (including the driver), the Ice Cream EV does have a decent amount of features. 

Its array of comfort-oriented bits includes fabric-clad seats, a 50:50 split-folding second row, electronically controlled air-conditioning, two 12-volt accessory outlets, an on-board driving recorder device (dashcam), USB ports, and a two-piece speaker system. 

Additionally, the small hatchback-style EV was kitted out with a comprehensive safety kit, which includes, but is not limited to, the following: 

• Anti-lock braking
• Tire pressure monitoring
• Pedestrian reminder system
• ISOFIX child seat anchors (rear seats)
• Driver-side airbag
• Rear parking sensors
• Reverse camera

Compact city conqueror

Due to its diminutive size, the Jetour Ice Cream EV is the ideal car for dealing with tight alleyways and roads. Additionally, its size also makes it quite easy to park.

Cons

Not much usable space for cargo

While one of the Jetour Ice Cream EV’s greatest strengths is the small dimensions, it is also its greatest weakness. 

As mentioned above, it can only fit four people inside. And with all of its seats occupied, it won’t have much room left for cargo. 

Final thoughts

Due to its small size, the Jetour Ice Cream EV isn’t for everyone. But on the flip side, it can function well as a good in-city runabout due to its decent range and its reasonable amount of creature comforts. Plus, it is quite accessible with its suggested retail price of P699,000.
