The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N entered the Philippine market together with the Elantra N at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show. Both belong to the Korean car brand’s N sub-brand of high-performance cars, so driving enthusiasts and even folks wanting to get into racing might be looking at the two cars as possible race car platforms.

    As a high-performance EV, the Ioniq 5 N was given a driver-oriented cabin. 

    For starters, it has loads of physical or touch-capacitive buttons, specifically for its automatic air-conditioning, drive functions, and audio player. All of the aforementioned are well-arranged and within easy reach for the one piloting the vehicle. 

    Unique to the Ioniq 5 N are paddle shifters, which are placed neatly behind the car’s steering wheel. The said bits are made out of a silver-colored metallic material and provide virtual gear-shifting, ensuring enhanced feedback and better control over the car’s powertrain.

    The model also has the N pedal, a specially designed accelerator for improved faster weight transferring when taking on corners. The brake pedal of the model was likewise positioned just right to allow for left-foot braking, which is crucial for advanced drivers. 

    For extra boost, the electric-powered Hyundai also comes equipped with the N Grin Boost, which comes in the form of a steering-wheel-mounted orange button labeled “NGB.” With a push of the said button, the driver receives full access to the model’s maximum 641-hp output for 10 seconds.

    The central display offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plus, sound is fed to the cabin by a premium Bose speaker system. For charging and added connectivity, the vehicle also comes with five USB ports and two power outlets. Further ease of use is also provided by a wireless smartphone charging pad. 

    Both screens come with a colorful user interface to reflect the liveliness of the Ioniq 5 N. Plus, drivers can access the vehicle’s launch control system and the N Battery Preconditioning feature from the central screen. 

    To note, the N Battery Preconditioning feature allows users to set a target temperature for the vehicle’s battery. Doing so can achieve maximum performance. Heating up the battery can likewise help in improving charging speeds.

    As a modern crossover-sized vehicle, Hyundai made sure to equip the Ioniq 5 N with plenty of standard safety bits. Its standard safety kit includes dual front airbags, curtain airbags, front center side airbags, anti-lock braking, ISOFIX child seat anchors, tire pressure monitoring, stability control, traction control, and hill-start assist - among others. 

    The aforementioned are likewise reinforced by several advanced driver-assist features such as:

    If one looks closely inside the Ioniq 5 N, one will find a practical and rather roomy cabin. So, despite being marketed as a track monster, the South Korean EV can likewise do double duty as a daily driver, grocery getter, or even a family car. 

    For starters, the model’s trunk can swallow up to 480 liters of cargo, which is more than enough for a week’s worth of groceries. If the aforementioned was not enough, its rear seats can also be folded down to stretch its trunk space to about 1,500 liters. 

    With that amount of room, the Ioniq 5 N can handle multiple travel bags, children’s school bags, a dog cage, or even long and tall sports equipment. Additionally, the model comes with a luggage cover, luggage hooks, a cargo net, and a power tailgate.

    Many users of the high-performance car may likewise find practical uses for the model’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. 

    With a V2L port found inside the vehicle, one can power up various small appliances, thus eliminating the need to wrangle extension wires to a home-based outlet. The said feature can be useful for cleaning the car with a vacuum cleaner or if you want to go camping together with an electric coffee machine or an induction cooker.
