New Peugeot 3008: Know the SUV inside-out
Peugeot 3008 which was unveiled in the Paris Motor Show 2018 took almost over a year to arrive in the Philippines. However, its arrival marked the entry of Peugeot’s second-generation 3008 crossover in the country. The latest 3008 is starkly different from its predecessors which were more leaning towards MPV. The second generation Peugeot 3008 has been drastically redesigned to turn it into a crossover. The 3008 is strong competition for some of the best SUVs on the market. Let us look at the features that give Peugeot 3008 edge over its competition.
Exterior Design
The exterior design has been revamped and the 3008 is now more upright as well as angular. The very first glimpse of Peugeot 3008 gives you a feeling of strength, elegance, and sophistication. On the front, there is a distinctive hood and larger air intakes. The chiselled checkered radiator grille along with the hallmark LED headlights gives it a feline look. On the side, you can see the high waistline and protection mouldings. On the rear, there is a wide bumper and claw-like tail lights. The gloss black panel with the LED lights gives the car a distinct look. The tailgate also looks different from the earlier version. The all-new Peugeot 3008 SUV comes with an 18-inch ‘Los Angeles’ Diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Interior
The interior of the Peugeot 3008 is well-designed and offers a premium feel. The 3008 gets the latest i-Cockpit dashboard layout. The raised driving height and compact steering wheel ensure a commanding view of the road. The 12.3-inch head-up digital display brings all the details that a driver might want within their field of vision. There is also an 8-inch touchscreen console for navigation and entertainment. The toggle switches are angled towards the driver making them more accessible. The telephone, mobile applications, radio, climate controls, and vehicle parameter can be accessed with these switches.
The 3008 also gets the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit Amplify which enables Boost and Relax driving modes. The instrument panel has multiple display modes such as Dials mode, Driving mode, and Personal mode, all of which change the style as well as the range of information that is displayed. Added advanced features include improved connectivity options which are achieved with Mirror Screen functionality. The car maker has ensured that there are sufficient storage options for the extra luggage. The rear passenger seats can be folded completely flat and also there are 2/3 – 1/3 Magic Flat folding options for them as well.
Engine & features
The Philippine version of the all-new Peugeot 3008 is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine capable of delivering 165 Hp and 240 Nm of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with an option to switch to manual mode. The gearbox is ergonomically designed and complemented by full-grain leather, satin chrome, as well as piano black materials.
The 3008 gets the Advanced Grip Control feature which is aimed at providing more traction in low-grip conditions. This feature adapts by acting on the front wheels and optimises traction in different weather and terrain. The Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC) is also available in the vehicle. The system maintains the brakes as well as speed while descending on a slope with a gradient of more than 5 percent and vehicle speed less than 30 kmph.
While many SUVs now offer a 360-degree view, the Peugeot 3008 provides only 180-degree rear view. So, this feature is helpful only while reversing the vehicle and manoeuvring around obstacles while reversing. This is something that the company can improve making the feature in line with other top-notch specifications.
Safety
The Peugeot 3008 has received a five-star rating from the Euro NCAP. This rating indicates that the vehicle is one of the safest available on the market. The most notable safety feature in the vehicle is the Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS). The AEBS avoids collusion or reduces the chances of the same by decreasing the speed of the vehicle if the driver does not react quickly. The camera mounted on the top of the windscreen and radar on the front bumper detects the obstacle ahead on the road.
The cruise control feature allows the driver to set a speed and distance from the front vehicle that needs to be maintained. The system is capable of detecting a vehicle in front of it and altering the speed accordingly. The Blind Spot Monitor is triggered if there is any vehicle in the blind spot and the driver is alerted as the LED is illuminated. This system ensures safety while overtaking and being overtaken by another vehicle.
The all-new Peugeot 3008 is available in three colours – Metallic Copper, Pearl White, and Platinum Grey. The price for the base variant of the Peugeot 3008 is Php 2,590,000.
