MG ZS EV

The fact that the cabin of the MG ZS EV has a seven-year-old design makes it look slightly dated and simple by modern standards. However, with impressive fit and finish levels, the ZS EV's all-black-themed cabin has nice-looking, contrasted silver accents on the door panels, dashboard, and multi-functional steering wheel.

The MG ZS EV's full-TFT 7-inch instrument console and large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system—the latter of which is slightly tilted towards the driver’s side—add a contemporary feel. The dashboard has rounded AC vents on the corners and sleek and angular vents above the infotainment system in the centre console.

The lower centre console of the MG ZS EV has buttons for automatic climate control and a gloss black panel below it that houses the drive mode controller knob and electronic parking brake. The cabin exudes quality in the leather upholstery and soft-touch fabrics all around. The ZS EV also has other modern features like a powered driver’s seat, i-SMART suite of voice-assisted functions, wireless charger, rear AC vents, front and rear centre armrests, panoramic sunroof, and an air purifier. 

Compared to the MG ZS on which it is based, the ZS EV has some notable differences in its visual appeal, with a significantly different front fascia and minor tweaks to its front and side profiles.

At the front, the MG ZS EV has a blanked-out, body-coloured closed grille with a large MG logo in the middle, which looks different from the hexagonal conventional grille of the MG ZS. The headlamps here are the same as the ZS, with these sweptback headlamps having LED projectors and boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. The wraparound chrome-finished U-shaped stretched splitters are at the bottom of the front bumper. 

The side and rear profiles of the MG ZS EV are the same as those of the regular MG ZS, with the former having different-looking aero-designed 17-inch machined alloy wheels and tweaked LED inserts for the combination tail lamps. The ZS EV's rear diffuser and roof rails are finished in a satin silver theme, adding some premium appeal to the exterior. 

The MG ZS EV gets the same suspension setup of Macpherson struts with a stabilizer bar at the front and a torsion beam at the rear as the MG ZS, which has been tuned on a softer side for comfortable ride quality. While the MG ZS EV feels supple and planted at all speeds, we do wish that the electric SUV's electronic power steering was a bit more well-weighted. The rear seats also have 60:40 split arrangement for maximising utility and boot space in the cabin.

Powering the MG ZS EV is a front-mounted electric motor that claims a maximum power output of 176 PS and a maximum torque output of 280 Nm. This electric motor is paired with a single-speed transmission and is accompanied by a 50.3kWh lithium-ion battery that claims a maximum range of 403 km (NEDC-certified).

The MG ZS EV has a long list of safety features, which includes six airbags, electronic parking brake, auto vehicle hold, ABS with EBD, brake assist, traction control, hill start assist, high beam control, electronic stability control, cornering brake control, tyre pressure monitoring system and a comprehensive ADAS suite including autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane change assist, blind spot detection, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, rear cross-traffic alert and 360-degree parking camera. 

With a spacious cabin, comfortable ride quality, and all the essential features on board, the MG ZS EV is one of the finest and most well-engineered products from MG.
